Why not hold a Carolina combine? Invite a bunch of portal guys to come here for a week or so. Work out with our coaches and our players and maybe some alumni. Play some games. Learn about their personalities. See who has a strong motor. And so on.
I'm not talking about the portal elite. Most of them won't want to do that (I assume). But what about the guys in the next tier down? Less well-known kids. Kids from small schools. Kids who may have decent stats and highlights, but it's all against lightweight competition.
Now that we're willing to throw some money at roster construction, why not spend a bit more and see if we can come up with some diamonds in the rough?
