Every coach preaches discipline and wants to keep penalties to a minimum, but flags are bound to fly in the game of football, and you don't want to lose aggression. Do more penalties result in less success?

Here are the 10 most-penalized and least-penalized teams over the last three years, along with their record in that span.

Some takeaways:

- The 10 most-penalized teams are a combined 237-142 over the past three years, including eight teams with winning records. The 10 least-penalized teams are 173-203, including four teams with winning records.

- The Pac-12 features six of the 10 teams with the most penalties.

- In the three years before Todd Graham arrived at Arizona State, the Sun Devils were among the most-penalized teams, with 311 from 2009-11. In his three years, they have among the fewest.

- The three least-penalized teams in the country are the three service academies.

- Teams haven’t played the same number of games, ranging from 36 to 41 over this span, which is why per-game stats are included. It’s also important to note some schools like Baylor, Oregon and Texas Tech are among the leaders in total plays.
