NEW YORK, N.Y. - For the second consecutive season, the North Carolina tight end duo of John Copenhaver and Bryson Nesbit have been placed on the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.
In 2023, Nesbit was named first-team All-ACC and first-team AP All-ACC after he appeared in 12 games while starting two at tight end. He finished the 2023 season with 41 receptions for 585 yards and five touchdowns and ended the year with the most receiving yards by a tight end in the ACC (585).
Last season, Copenhaver appeared in 12 games while making 10 starts at tight end. He ended the season with 18 receptions for 240 yards and four touchdowns. Against NC State, Copenhaver recorded five catches for 64 yards, both career highs, and a TD.
The 2024 Tar Heel offense will look to continue its passing game success from a season ago. In 2023, the Tar Heel offense ranked 1st in the ACC in passing offense and total offense.
