Told y'all. What's extra sad is the Rams Club asked for less than half of what UGA's booster club asked for, and we still didn't sell out that RC allotment.Just like TarHeelNation11 predicted - UGA fans quickly bought up the rest of our allotted tickets that were for sale to the public on goheels.com. Sad! But the game is in UGA's backyard. I'll be there wearing Carolina Blue!!

I'm not surprised UGA fans got more tickets, but don't let it being "in Georgia's backyard" fool you. This was thinly veiled as a neutral site game the whole time - not sure why people are surprised that UGA fans got the lions share of the tickets...
That said, I was planning on going if I could get tickets - but that didnt end up happening.
Check out my Rams Club rant on OOTB. The Rams Club is pleading for new members. Less than 5% of living UNC alumni are Rams Club members. That's pathetic.....especially considering the fact that 5% of UNC's living alumni is a much, much, much smaller number than 5% of say, Michigan or Ohio State's living alumni base. Those schools are huge. UNC fans need to do more. It's pathetic and makes me angry like it does you. It's sad and it makes me so angry. We need more peeps in the Rams Club.

Put this game in Charlotte and the splits would be the exact same. It's about fanbase and fan loyalty. UNC's fanbase is smaller, yes (look up how big of a school UGA is), but it is also vastly less loyal. I.E. our fans suck and don't attend games. This isn't a new thing.
Dude, you had 3 chances to buy these tickets.Agreed on if it were in Charlotte it would be a similar situation. I guess its the UNC ticket office's botch. I would have gladly bought tickets for the game if they could have ensured all the tickets didn't get scooped up by UGA fans. They couldn't make sure I (an alum) had access to tickets - so they get what they deserve in having more UGA fans there.
Dude, you had 3 chances to buy these tickets.
The Rams Club had a presale.
The UNC General Alumni Association had a presale.
And then anyone could buy them on GOHEELS.COM.
And how were they supposed to do that?I would have assumed you would have to be a member of the Rams Club and the GAA in order to participate in the presales - maybe I'm wrong.
Regardless, I'm not complaining that I didn't get tickets - just pointing out that if people want to complain about a low percentage of UNC fans in attendance, direct them at the ticket office who could have done a better job making sure alums who were interested in buying tickets (for example, me) could have gotten tickets.
And they were not all scooped up by the time the general sales occurred on goheels.com.I would have assumed you would have to be a member of the Rams Club and the GAA in order to participate in the presales - maybe I'm wrong. By the time they got to goheels.com they were all scooped up.

Do they have your email or phone# or address?
This has been posted all over twitter, facebook, goheels.com
This is fan apathy, not a ticket office botch.
And they were not all scooped up by the time the general sales occurred on goheels.com.
I checked all day Saturday and Sunday AM and there were still good tickets left to purchase for any UNC fan that wanted them!
Dude, if you really would have bought tickets, you would have gotten on goheels.com Saturday morning and purchased them. It wasn't until Sunday that only singles were available.Actually they do have my contact information - at least when they want to ask me for money. Maybe it gets lost when there's a time I actually want to hear from them - who knows.
I only saw single seats available when I checked. Regardless, as I said - I'm not heartbroken I didn't get tickets. I would have bought tickets if I saw them available, but instead will have to listen to how UNC fans didn't want to go to the game, when in fact I would have gone if I could have gotten tickets.
One more post.@Hark_The_Sound_2010 and @rritch2 are both right on this (although, you can settle down rritch....getting pissed at Hark isn't going to fix anything).
There was failure on multiple fronts:
1. First and foremost, the fanbase failed -- as it always does -- with its apathy. Think about this....the RC didn't even bother requesting near the number of tickets UGA's booster club requested because it knows UNC fans won't buy the full allotment. That is such a huge red flag right there.
2. There's no such thing as over-advertising. This is such a marquee game that the Rams Club and the Carolina athletic department should've sent -- not joking -- 25 emails to everyone between the end of bowl season and the request deadline on April 1 or whenever it was.
3. This wasn't a time-specific failure, but the Rams Club lacks the number of donors to be an aggressive ticket-buying force. Too many Carolina fans sit on their hands and don't join the Rams Club. It is widely believed Carolina is runneth over with money, but to quote Mike Gundy, "THAT AIN'T TRUE!!" The Rams Club is hurting badly for members and donations.
I hope that all the folks who aren't going to the game watch on TV and are embarrassed when they see it's -- literally -- 75/25 in favor of UGA fans vs Carolina fans. I hope it embarrasses them enough to support their school financially. I hope we win the game just to make it even more embarrassing and make them think "well dang, I should've bought tickets."
And please, for the love of God, do not blame the ongoing NCAA scandal as the reason you aren't going to games. That's an insulting argument. Insulting to all Rams Club owners, all UNC athletes past and present, and the University itself.
Hark_The_Sound_2010 - question for you.I'm not going to pretend that I had alerts/alarms set for each stage of the ticketing process. I wasn't exactly sure when the tickets were going on sale anyways - I'm just saying that when I logged on to buy tickets, if there were a pair available at face value, I would have bought them (so to say that fans aren't interested in attending the game is a little disingenuous) . I realize that the Rams Club and the ticket office aren't going to sit there and say "Gee, we gotta wait until Hark buys his pair so we can offer these up to the general public". As it stands, I may very well end up paying the moderately inflated ticket prices on stubhub in order to go - and that extra profit will be split between stubhub and the seller (probably a UGA fan) - and I would have rather given any extra profit to the UNC ticket office is all I'm saying.
I will agree that the all UNC parties could do more to make it well known when ticket deadlines are. People are, by and large, stupid (myself included) and need to be reminded many times when things are happening.I'm not going to pretend that I had alerts/alarms set for each stage of the ticketing process. Have you suggested this to the Rams Club?I will agree that the all UNC parties could do more to make it well known when ticket deadlines are. People are, by and large, stupid (myself included) and need to be reminded many times when things are happening.
Back to the Rams Club for a second. This is where a "minimum buy-in" would be effective. If you had people who could join for like $50 a year, this would create a "secondary list" of potential ticket-buyers who they could contact in the event that all the tickets aren't sold (like this game). That way, you are still (theoretically) putting tickets in the hands of UNC fans, not other team's fans.
I'm going to put together a letter with a few ideas I have and send it to a few people in the Rams Club. I've just been busy the past few days.Have you suggested this to the Rams Club?
The ticket office would also love suggestions on how to get tickets like these into the hands of UNC fans.
I strongly, strongly disagree. It wouldn't be any better. Put it in Raleigh and it would still be 70-75% UGA. Our fans would find a different excuse than proximity to not attend. But if the UGA game was in goldsboro/greensboro i bet we'd see 75% UNC. I choose goldsboro/greensboro because they are a 5.5 hr drive from ATL but just an hr from UNC.
I would probably be willing to do something like that.Back to the Rams Club for a second. This is where a "minimum buy-in" would be effective. Hark_The_Sound_2010 - question for you.
EXACTLY what could UNC have done to get your attention enough to purchase tickets to this game?
A personal email, something in your mailbox, a phone call?
EXACTLY what would have pushed over the edge enough to buy?
You obviously knew when they were going on sale on goheels.com

Even though it shouldn't be this way, but would-be Rams Club members want something in return for their donations. They want perks, exclusive events, etc. They also want to feel part of a community. THIS is where the Rams Club falls way, way short IMO. You don't really feel part of a community. There's not enough Rams Club meetups and stuff like that. If it felt more inclusive and less like a country club, maybe more people would join? I don't know. I donate because it helps the athletic department and I love UNC athletics. And to get first dibs at tickets.
Comes down to a rabid UGA fan base hungry for tickets that support their team with money and spiritWell yes, an email or a call would have done the trick - but again, I'm not saying I expect the ticket office to do that for each alum - although an email blast probably wouldnt be too much to ask. How long was the time between when I could have gotten them to the time when UGA fans could have gotten them? If I'm not in RC or GAA, I thought I had access at the same time as the rest of the public. Again, not complaining about that - just pointing out that saying alums aren't interested in going is inaccurate. I would have bought tickets if I saw them - if you want to point the finger at me for not seeing them when they were wherever they were, that's probably a valid point.
Yes definitely. The way I generally work is, oh these tickets are on sale, let me buy them. Not - oh, in 3 months at 8am these tickets are going on sale, let me make sure I log in at that time to race everyone else. The minimum buy-in thing would be interesting, and something I would consider.
Which is fine, and everyone has their own unique situation. Maybe it isn't a good idea for you to to be a big Rams Club donor, given you live in Boston (though, you could donate on a smaller level just to help the cause ), but for every one of you, there's 50 new alums that live in Charlotte, Raleigh, or Durham who also don't donate a dime or join the Rams Club. And these are folks who could directly benefit from the benefits (access to tickets for games that are in relatively close by locales).Exactly. I realize the point of it isn't to get a maximization of value - you're supposed to be donating genuinely because you're interested in helping the athletic department prosper. But, at my current stage of life, I have trouble just "throwing money away" for things that I don't really use or need. This would be one of those situations. I try to make it down for a football game every year, but I just can't see how RC can really help me. If there was some sort of benefit I would get from it, I'd be more inclined to "overpay" for that benefit - but as it stands, I don't see what I would be getting from joining.
Hell, make it $10 a year. You get a program guides for football and basketball, and the UNC ticket office gets thousands more email addresses to contact about ticket sales.Back to the Rams Club for a second. Yep, if they threw in these three things for $10 (probably would have to be $25 to cover the cost + make a small profit):Hell, make it $10 a year. You get a program guides for football and basketball, and the UNC ticket office gets thousands more email addresses to contact about ticket sales.
It's not really due to lack of education. Or shouldn't be. It's pretty common knowledge that Rams Club gets first dibs on tickets to marquee games like this (and to ALL games away from Kenan, actually). If you aren't in the Rams Club, that's why you weren't notified. The Rams Club and UGA's booster club and Chick-fil-A all expected zero tickets to be sold to the general public. It was only after UNC didn't sell out its Rams Club allotment did they have to put the unsold tickets on to general sale......which they did email blast, if you've ever purchased a ticket through GoHeels. They have your email.Being an alum and living in the Midwest, I think the Rams Club, ticket office and the university could do a much better job of clarifying who can purchase the tickets and when. Sure, you can point to an apathetic fan base with regard to football. But, can that also be attributed to a lack of education with regard to the process. I am originally from Ga. and have family living in Atlanta. I actually was taking steps to go to the game but never got clarification as to who qualifies to buy tickets. I basically am looking to stubhub. An email blast to all alum would do the trick. Prior to offering to the general public, send something out to alum.

You're going to get gouged on StubHub compared to buying through the RC or GoHeels. That's not the case for a lot of games, but it will be the case this game.
That is a ridiculous statement . The game is in Atlanta which isn't exactly a day trip for those of us not in Western N.C. It's easy for you to talk ish from Atlanta how many home games will you attend? I will be there for all if no complications arise.I strongly, strongly disagree. It wouldn't be any better. Put it in Raleigh and it would still be 70-75% UGA. Our fans would find a different excuse than proximity to not attend.

Hahaha, you're barking up the wrong tree. I can personally attest that @TarHeelNation11 was at every game in Kenan last season except Delaware, plus the USCjr game in Charlotte. He was also at the ACCCG in Charlotte and the bowl game in Orlando. That is a ridiculous statement . The game is in Atlanta which isn't exactly a day trip for those of us not in Western N.C. Tend to agree, and I felt the same way until I realized that many (most?) NFL and college teams use the same arrangement. For example, you have to be have a Permanent Seat License (PSL) for Panthers games before you can buy tickets directly from the franchise.I guess I just find something fundamentally wrong with charging people for the option to buy tickets (whether you exercise that option or not)....
