has left ESPN owing 20 million to advertisers. It is mainly attributed to New Year's Eve playing times.

Honestly I only watched some of the first half of the Clemson game, and only because I didn't have to work that day. I could care less about Alabama so I didn't even watch any of that one. Even though I am a football fan, I doubt I'll even watch much (or any) of the game on Monday. I really don't care to see Bama win another title, which they likely will.

As for the New Year's Eve scheduling, I think it's just plain dumb. Lots of people had to work that day, and the early game starts at 1 on the west coast. Put these games back on New Year's Day as the two later games when it's a holiday for everybody.

the rose bowl didn't want to go along and move their game.
i'd tell the rose bowl to get with the program or compete with the playoffs for viewers.
stupid putting it on new years eve and what's even dumber is that they say the public will come around so they're going to do it again next year.

Speaking of stupid stuff as far as tv. I don't understand why the Super Bowl and NCAA football and basketball title games aren't on Saturday night. Most of America doesn't have to work the next day. And fans could enjoy it more. And households and bars could really have great and fun parties concideri g it's not a work day. And I bet the ratings would be better also.

people will watch a championship football or bball game on the eve of a workday. That is not the problem.

the way I understood it was ESPN begged off NYE semi-final's but the football championship folks said, "no, we are playing them on NYE, tough sh*t espn"? Now ESPN is held holding the bag. If that is true it would be (maybe) the only time I was on the side of ESPN.

i have always wanted them to try having the Super Bowl on a Saturday night. I can't tell you the number of times I've left a decent Super Bowl party at halftime because I had to work the next day. Isn't the Monday following the Super Bowl the number one day for work absences every year? I don't think they will ever change it, but I, for one, would like to see it tried.

What time do you have to get up? I have never left a Super Bowl party early , even when I was an 8 to 5'er. One short sleep night a couple of times every month or so shouldn't hurt too much.

Solution is simple - if the Rose Bowl is more important than the National Championship playoffs to that august institution and the Conferences who have enjoyed the closed admittance to that event for MANY years, just exclude the Rose Bowl from the NY6 (which would become the NY5) and the playoffs altogether, which also would mean that the B1G and Pac 12 champs will be ineligible to participate in the CFP at all. Play the 2 semi-final bowl games in the same time slots as they appeared on New Years' Eve this year, but play them ON NEW YEARS DAY - which has for decades been the focal point for the wrap up of collegiate football. Let the Rose Bowl and it's constituent conferences do whatever the hell they want to do! Other teams from those conferences could be classified the same as any "at large" team for CFP participation, and "potentially" get invited - but the conference champs would still get to play in the Rose Bowl. since that's clearly of primary importance to them.
