You could be right, but I still believe the committee wants to stay away from having two teams from the same conference in the playoffs. If Georgia and Alabama are undefeated and play in the SEC Championship game, I think they both still make the playoff if the final score is somewhat close.

If 2 SEC teams make the playoffs, the Big Ten will explode with envious hatred. The Big Ten expects to be able to buy the best of everything, including preventing people from beating it in anything it wants to win.
Here is the funny part: the only to slow down SEC football is for ACC football to continue to rise, and that requires Notre Dame helping the ACC. But the Big Ten hates Notre Dame even as it hopes to force ND into the Big Ten, and now the Big Ten hates the ACC because of ND.
I think a lot of backing for that has evaporated as Big Ten people have realized that Notre Dame will never join the Big Ten under any circumstances. So BT people now see the current set up as better than forcing ND to go to full football member of the ACC. BT people know that ND playing for ACC championships in football will be another reinvigoration of the program.Notre Dame really needs to join a conference. There has been discussions about a slight rule change to the playoff that would require a team to win a conference championship in order to qualify. If that were to happen, ND would have no choice.
I don't see that happening unless multiple conference champs lose more than one game.If Georgia and Alabama are undefeated and play in the SEC Championship game, I think they both still make the playoff if the final score is somewhat close.
Not necessarily. If they run the table this year and make the playoffs Then they will know it's possible to do so without being in the ACC. If they run the table, but don't make it because they didn't play in a conference championship game their chances of joining increase. I think it would take multiple years of that happening for them to make the move, but there would be serious consideration if that happened this year.Notre Dame really needs to join a conference.
If they are shut out of the CFP multiple times because they are not in a conference they will. ND plays for championships. If their only way to win one is to join a conference they will do that.n. dame will never join the acc in football. they're too good for us (in their opinion).
So you're saying we have a chance?A couple fun tidbits:
- This is the first time in the history of this CFP poll (19 total) that Utah is not ranked in the Top 25
- Since the CFP rankings were introduced, only 5 of the 12 teams ranked in the Top 4 in the first poll of the year went on to make the playoff that year.
You could be right, but I still believe the committee wants to stay away from having two teams from the same conference in the playoffs.
I'm thinking they climb to 6-7. If they beat ND next week, they might jump into the top 4.The Miami D looked like a National Champ D tonight against VT.
Game Day next Saturday is in Miami. ND will still be #3 in the poll. How high will Miami go up this week?
Completely disagree, the committee wants the 4 best teams, & under that scenario Georgia & Alabama will be 2 of the best 4 teams.
The Miami D is sound. The ND OL is also sound. That could be as good a game as any this season.I'm thinking they climb to 6-7. If they beat ND next week, they might jump into the top 4.
