So much for the Notre Dame win saving his job. It looks like he is out at the end of the season. LSU, Texas and possibly USC may all the looking for new coaches this year. With three high profile openings in the same year, things could get interesting.

Charlie could do himself a serious favor by beating Oklahoma this weekend.

I don't think this game will matter. Most of their boosters haven't liked him from day 1. If I were him, I would want to go somewhere else.

Charlie is a sitting duck. He would be much better off to pull the plug on his own and highlight the lack of support around the program and move on. He's a good Coach, maybe not an elite head coach but a good coach that will land on his feet.

Get ready to up Fed's pay. I remember the last time Texas looked to UNC for a coach.

Maybe NC State? They seem to need a change. Not that I mind their failing but just wondering.

Strong left a sweet deal in U of L where he could have been king and went to, although a destination job, a place where you never can enjoy yourself due to the unreasonable amount of pressure place upon you to win. Look at Mack and how he was treated after winning a national championship. Sometimes, it is best to stay where you are. I have no doubt that coaching in his home state would be desirable; however, what would be the cost? No way he gets 5 years to turn things around. The jobs that are available either now or at the end of the season, LSU, possibility Texas, USC and Oregon, are not programs that will wait for 5 years. Oregon may but the rest certainly wouldn't. If they came calling, I hope Fed realizes that he can have it all right here in the Southern Part of Heaven.

Agreed. I certainly don't have the competitive, alpha-dog DNA that most head coaches have, but sometimes you have to wonder what they're thinking. Maybe they're just never satisfied no matter how much money and notoriety they have. Makes me really respect guys like Chris Petersen, who stayed at Boise State for years and passed up tons of big opportunities.

i remember coach bowden saying that UNC was a sleeping giant or diamond in the rough - referring to the potential of the football team ... coach fed may become "king of the hill" if things continue to improve ... not sure i would want to go to lsu when your success depends upon beating coach saban ... texas seems to be a hornet's nest ... unc may suit coach fed and a ton of other prospective coaches to a t ... biggest problem may be competing with unc basketball ... think that was big reason mack b. left??

My only question is why? Why should there be any competition between the two entities. With all of the championship success our university have accomplished over it's existence, why would having a championship football team and basketball team be bad? I just do not get the "either/or" logic

Hell yea i'm with u strum! We'll kick their arses!
Ha! My special ass-kicking boots are polished.

No, I meant; neither will do as well at Texas, let alone better. Fedora has a chance to build a legacy. He goes to Texas, he's going to fail at maintaining a legacy. Chizik is having a hard enough time keeping ACC offenses to under a bazillion yards per game.

People, Fedora to Texas is NOT a thing. It's Texas A&M you need to worry about. Regardless if Fedora would be interested in UT or not, Texas boosters want one of the following:

1. Saban
2. Tom Herman.

That's it. They tried hiring a guy who isn't on the top of the mountain (Strong) and it didn't work. They want the most elite coach out there. They see Herman as that guy.

Maybe indirectly. And I'm sure there are those who know more about this than I, but my understanding is that Mack told our then-AD that he would stay if certain conditions were met and the AD said "no way" to those conditions.

Baddour sucked.

Let's be honest. Coach Strong had not a snow ball chance in hell at Texas. Despite the AD choice to pick him there was greater forces that simply didn't want a black coach at Texas. That move really piss some donator off. It was an HOW DARE YOU pick him as our coach. Strong was in the same boat as Ty Willingham at ND. To me this is one of those not so comfortable subject that some folks will tip toe around because truth is Strong skin color was/is issues with some donators. If that's not the case then why not let him at least get the players in to fit his style. He's been there 2 yrs? That's no time to build your program. Hell, they pretty much fired Coach Mack so again Coach Strong didn't have a snowball chance in hell

Don't be so sure, that NC on his reseme can carry a lot of weight.
3-9 carries a lot of weight too for big name schools. I'm not saying he's not a good coach, but if he wants to be a head coach again he'll have to start somewhere else. A powerhouse school isn't going to be the first to hire him.

There were Texas power boosters who wanted Strong precisely because he is black. For most of them, Kevin Sumlin at A&M and recruiting very well meant that Texas with a white coach might lose a number of top TX recruits to the Aggies.

As for Ty - the man left ND and became the worst HC in the history of the University of Washington. He got very lucky at Stanford when the entire Pac was down, and then he proved he could get the ND job done, and the proved he could suck worse that anyone, and that at a school which then had the 2nd most football history in the Pac.

I doubt that Strong sucks on a Ty level at his next job, but I also doubt that he will produce back to back years at his next job equal to his last 2 years at Louisville.

We'll see,USC and Texas failed on their current coaches.

That is a load of crock.

You do realize that Washington tied Ty's hands behind his back on the recruiting also nd fired tire even after he told them that yr they would, struggle, but the next yr be lights out. Weiss comes in and wins immediately with Ty's players. Not a bad coach and yes skin color played a factor in his ouster at ND ditto Washington. I live in Jacksonville this, stuff is a known fact around these parts. Willingham is just to,classy to call people on in. I don't think Charlie strong will be as nice. Especially after only having 2 yrs.
