He was at Nebraska last year, after 9 at Air Force. I've said before that I like coaches with Academy experience because there they must stress fundamentals. And boy does our D now need the hard work of mastering fundamentals.

Charlton Warren's bio for the Huskers website.

Huskers ranked 5th nationally in pass efficiency defense his first year as NU's secondary coach, and 4th nationally last season.

Warren played at Air Force when Fedora was the QB/WR coach there, so there is a familiarity between the two. Warren was one of the few coaches retained after Mike Riley took the NU job, mostly because of his recruiting acumen.

This is another really, really solid hire by Fedora. Give the man some credit, because if we're being honest I can't imagine how coaching at UNC versus Nebraska is an upgrade from a professional standpoint. Must have been a heck of a sales pitch, although Papuchis might have had something to do with the move as well.

I'm not expecting UNC's defense to look like the 1997 version of itself, but I'll be extremely shocked if we don't see significant improvement this season.

Papuchis was the DC who brought Warren to Nebraska. That and getting to work wirth Chizik did it.

And having known Fedora as an assisstant when he played.

I think the D this fall will play smarter, with much more consistency.

To your point . . . I can't see how moving to NC wouldn't be a huge promotion from living in Nebraska. But hey, that's just my opinion.

LOL, true. I used to travel through Lincoln for work. Flying in is an odd experience...nothing but farmland as far as you can see, and one little dot of a city as you're coming in for a landing. It's not a bad town but it's almost literally the middle of nowhere.

As one who lives in Nebraska, you are correct about Lincoln. But you should really check Omaha out as well. For a small city, I was surprised to find that there are a lot of things to do there when I moved here from Philadelphia. There's the college baseball world series if you like baseball. I imagine you are a basketball fan, so going to a Creighton game is a blast. Also, plenty of great restaurants, the Henry Doorly Zoo, considered the best zoo in the country, some of the best indie music in the nation and the Old Market. If not for the weather and the stereotype of cows and cornfields, Omaha would be one of the fastest growing cities. Cost of living is very low and the people are extremely friendly, even if their driving skills leave you scratching your head.

I agree. I defintely prefer smaller towns with counbtry nearby. But I also know the value of nearby larger towns, that will have more sophisticated medical facilities and various cultural events that cannot be put on in small towns. That plus a low violent crime rate is ideal.

Omaha hits the mark in everything but winter weather.

You wil find Huskers fan after fan noting that Warren is a great recruiter, and that he kept the class from falling apart after Pelini was fired.

In Warren, we got a DB coach who is a proven top recruiter and has made his name at Air Force, where the emphasis is always on mastering fundamentals to master potential.

That is exactly what we needed. It's the best of both worlds.

Heard some really good "alternative country" from out that way not long ago. Lots of good singers/songwriters flying just below the radar and making great music. You won't hear them on the radio...but then I'd rather listen to pigs fart than one more Jason Aldean "driving down a dirt road with a drunk chic in cut-offs shaking her money maker" song. Blech.

It's the b10. Not exactly a passing league. Just not sold from that aspect. Scheming against Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin will not have our dbs ready good a good passing offense or a spread team

Your giving the ACC too much credit for their passing offenses.. its top heavy at best.. Besides, Nebraska finished top 25 in pass defense, and we finished worse than 100.. if we make a 20% improvement in that category, ill take it..
The bigger issue was UNC not stopping the run... When teams avg 5 yards per carry, your DBs lose discipline throughout the game and a lot of thing start to open up through the air

I actually lived in Bellevue as a kid when my dad was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base. When my parents divorced, we moved to an apartment within walking distance of Henry Doorly Zoo. Even though my brother was only in 1st grade and I was in pre-school, we were latch-key kids and would visit the zoo on our own after school. I still remember the red plastic elephant "keys" you could use to listen to narration about each of the animal displays. Lots of memories.

Creighton basketball can go straight to hell.

B1G - 30.1

Number of carries per game, 2014-2015 season:

Alright, dumb question time: What is the history of bad blood between Creighton and the Tar Heels?

Edit: Never mind, I found out the answer. 2012 NCAA tournament and foul on Kendall Marshall. I don't really follow basketball, so I apologize for bringing it up.

It wasn't one foul- it was the whole game. Dirtiest team most of us have seen in our lifetimes.

In the game thread, I said that if the refs didn't start calling it as they should, we could see an injury.

'Letting them play' always can lead to injury because it allows players to keep pushing the envelope. Those refs allowed the Creighton players to get away with all kinds of ganging, so naturally they kept banging.

Yes, exactly. This little winking GIF tells you all you need to know. Gibbs had just hacked Henson's already injured wrist, which made it worse - preventing him from playing in the remainder of the tournament. Screw Creighton

This winking GIF from Gibbs, who had just hacked Henson on his already injured wrist (thus injuring it further and preventing him from playing in the remainder of the tournament), tells you all you need to know. Screw Creighton.

Seen or 'played against'? And that depends on age too.

That Creighton team that day was dirty, no doubt whatsoever. But the dirtiest I have ever seen over the course of a season, or just that year's NCAA tourney, is '84 Georgetown, cloasely followdd by '83 Georgetown.
