By now you already know the story of Chris Mintz, the US Army veteran that stood behind the doorway and blocked the UCC shooter from entering the classroom and was shot 5 times, and then 2 more times after the gunman gained access to the room.

Well, his cousin (he and Chris grew up in Randleman,NC) started a GOFundMe account looking to raise $10K to help his cousin with medical bills, childcare for his son and general expenses until he could return to maybe a normal life.

His GoFundMe Acct now has amassed $602,764 , it was at $589,109 when I first started typing up this thread 5 minutes ago.

There are requests to the GoFundMe Admins to forego their 8% handling fee and contribute the entire amount to Chris, I hope they do.

A fantastic heartwarming story I just wanted to share . .

Chris, you make the rest of feel proud Bro!

$717,980 donated as of 11:45 am Sunday morning . . . WOW.

All I ever said was the kid shouldn't have been arrested. Never said he was discriminated against, that he was some kind of hero, or that he deserved to go the White House. Why tag me in a thread like this @UNC71-00 ?

Because in some other recent thread, you claimed that Obama wasnt doing things to exacerbate the race problem. However inviting young Ahmed to the White House was just one more example of such policy.

I obviously don't watch enough cable news. How does inviting a Muslim teenager to the White House worsen race relations in this country? You act like he's never invited a white person before. I'm white, and this has absolutely no impact on me or my views on race whatsoever. I get that the invitation could be seen as pandering. But exacerbating racial problems? Should black people be offended that he recently invited the Black Keys to the White House instead of a "real" blues band? Should Harvard students be outraged that he invited some MIT students recently? The only people upset about this are those who already hate everything the man does.

I do pretty much dislike everything he does.

My point remains- he goes out of his way to invite a minority kid who was a supposed to be a victim of discrimination to the WH but crickets on real heros.

He invited the Marines who took down the terrorist on the Paris train. They seem like real heroes to me. And Ronald Reagan invited Mr. T to the WH in the 80's. I bet I could find some "real heroes" who were more deserving of that invitation, but there's no point because reasonable people realize that inviting Mr. T to the WH should not be viewed as a slap in the face to everyone else who didn't get an invitation.
