Here's a little background as far as I know it. A fellow Tar Heel alumnus named Tony Rodono started a small business making art out of maps. Initially, it was maps of cities (hence the name) but over the years it has expanded into all kinds of other things. Just a few examples: sports stadiums, college campuses, National Parks, military bases, marathon routes, beaches & lakes, etc.
I have no affiliation with this guy or his company. I just think the concept is really cool and makes for creative gift-giving for the right person. For example, I gave my niece a city map print of Nashville (born and raised) for her birthday a few years ago when she turned 10. Now that my brother's family is moving this summer, it'll hopefully become a keepsake for her.
