Southern college football baby.....a'int nuthin' better. ACC has a chance to sweep football , basketball and baseball NCAA championships for the year 2 out of last 3 in football. According to ESPN FPI Clemson has 38% chance to win pretty close to what their winning chances were against OU.

But if Clemson wins, I won't mind -- would be good for the ACC (but bad for our recruiting)
There is obviously some debate about that last point, but here's how I look at it. Clemson can only take 25 recruits each year. Sure, we might lose some recruiting battles to them straight up, but the overall effect of a strong conference might be a net win for UNC recruiting. Just look at the talent that the top SEC teams amass every recruiting cycle. Bama can't take them all.

I'm not a Saban fan at all, so, I'll be pulling for the Tigers tonight.

Clemson's defense was better than I thought it would be against Oklahoma, which has a very good rushing game, but, the Sooners were held by them to just 67 yards in that game. There's some very good speed playing behind that Clemson defensive line and they can close fast on the ball.

it's been 35 years since UNC won an ACC football championship (35 YEARS!!!). now, we have a good coach who is building a contender, but the main obstacle standing between us and an ACC title is -- you guessed it -- CLEMSON! in the ACC championship game a few weeks ago we saw the kind of favoritism given to clemson, imagine how bad that will get if they're defending national champion. if you don't mind waiting another 35 years for a championship, fine, but I mind a he// of a lot! a clemson dynasty would be a catastrophe for carolina football. ask all those SEC teams how they feel losing the title every year to bama. i guarantee you they get very little comfort knowing they're losing to a dominant program because it brings glory to the league some of which trickles down to them. in short, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, so ROLL TIDE ROLL!

Clemson's last NC didn't cause a dynasty and I doubt this one will either. The ACC becoming more of a football conference will help us more than anything. If we can just stop the tide of in-state guys heading to the SEC it will take us up a level. I will be pulling for Clemson.

how does it help carolina if instate recruits go to clemson over the sec?
i'm with jimmy on this one.

Where did I say in-state recruits going to Clemson helps Carolina? A little math will tell you clemson can't take them all. SEC stealing several of the best in-state recruits every year if we can slow that tide first it will take our program to a level where we can better recruit against Clemson and FSU. Do you really think a weak FB conference will help our recruiting? Kids want to play in the SEC because it is the best , winning 2 of last 3 NC's in FB moves ACC into that conversation.

you said;
"If we can just stop the tide of in-state guys heading to the SEC it will take us up a level."
stopping the instate recruits from going to the sec doesn't do squat for us unless they're in chapel hill and clemson winning isn't going to help that.
them playing in the acc isn't going to help that.
they're are only a handfull of 4-5 star recruits in nc every year and yes, clemson can take them all.

they won 6 of the next 10 ACC titles. perhaps dynasty is too strong a word, but the fact is winning a national championship helps your program. i'd rather a team we rarely play get that boost than our conference rival.

I'm not rooting against Clemson with hopes that it will have a significant impact on Carolina's recruiting. Successful recruiting is dependent on Carolina getting the job done on the field, and we made strides this year and will continue to next year and beyond. Great recruiting, particularly in-state, is going to take care of itself.

Go Tigers.

Decent defense by CU. Got away with an offsides and a defensive hold. Need for Watson to step up.

I feel like a Clemson win is better for UNC.

Good for the conference, shows we can go toe to toe with the national champions in our conference title game. Yes, we might lose out head to head on a recruit or two every once in a while, but overall it will generate more interest around our program IMO.

Big Mo' seems to have shifted to Bama at this point. Clemson D needs to do something.

Clemson's performance since Swinney's coaching began has made their recruiting stronger. Venables is an amazing coach as well. The recruiting battle is going to be tough whether they win or lose this game. They're giving Alabama all it can take. If the ACC schools get any benefit from winning this, then let the Tigers win. The Tigers are committed to their football program. UNC has to prove that it is committed to theirs. Once you get a winning program, everything falls into place. Fedora and Chizik are going to get theirs.

This is more than just recruiting. Venables is making Swinney shine. Swinney needs Venables more than Venables needs Swinney.

Well that was about what I expected. Heck of a game, Clemson really was every bit their match. Tigers had just a few lapses to give up big plays and it cost em.

On-sides kick was a gutsy call. Clemson was caught totally off-guard. Changed the whole game. Had it not worked, one can imagine it was game over for Alabama.

Wish Clemson had won for a variety of reasons, one of which is it's harder psychologically to repeat and now they will feel they have something more to prove if we are fortunate enough to face them next year in the ACC championship game.

Hate seeing this result. Total fluke-fest. The onside kick was insanely perfect for Alabama, followed up by that runback. I think Dabo should've gone for it on 4th down instead of a FG, and the subsequent runback vindicated my opinion.

Now I get to hear Saban obsessively imply how they didn't perform 100% as he receives another trophy. Will he try NFL again?

Heckuva game to watch as a college football fan. Wish Clemson could have pulled it out; just had too many plays get away from them at crucial times. Glad it was a good game. Watson is a great college player.
