Kyler McMichael, a cornerback who played last season at Clemson, will transfer to North Carolina, he announced on Twitter on Saturday afternoon.

McMichael was a true freshman last season playing 101 snaps in 12 of the national champion Tigers’ games. He made two tackles on the season, including one versus Florida State.

A 4-star prospect from Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross, GA, McMichael was the No. 53 overall prospect nationally in the class of 2018, including the No. 8 player at his position and the No. 7 overall prospect in the talent-rich state of Georgia.

In addition to Clemson, McMichael was also offered by Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Notre Dame and many others while in high school. UNC’s previous staff did not offer the 6-foot, 200 pounder.

Previously, ACC rules stated a player transferring from one ACC school to another had to sit out a season while also losing another year of eligibility, but now the rule is in line with the NCAA’s across the board. So McMichael, along with Bryce Watts, who transferred from Virginia Tech to UNC earlier this summer, will sit out this fall but not lose any years of eligibility.

THI’s Take: This is a significant pick up for Mack Brown’s program. McMichael was highly touted in high school and just about every major program wanted him, so any time you can add someone with so many natural gifts and so sought after it can only help the program. He got on the field right away at Clemson so after sitting out a year he likely will compete for playing time next fall with the Tar Heels.
