Coach K needs to be stopped.. this is crap

Then UNC should do it to then. Bring the Lakers to town. We could do it to. We just need to stop worrying about what K does. And just take care of North Carolina problems. And put UNC back in the Elite category. Now that after this year should end the NCAA cloud gone. And there being no excuses for the Elite HS round ball players. GO HEELS!!!!!!

We never left the elite category! I agree that we should spend less time worrying about puke though! ratty is at the end of his tenure, and college bball has always been cyclical. With our recent recruiting successes (hopefully at least 2-3 more peeps) and the deep, talented team we have now,I feel UNC is back on the upward side of the cycle. When one of the greats rises, one usually falls.

Will it be you, Kentuck, with a coach who leaves behind a trail of slime or will it be you, puke, whose coach has reached the end of his time, or if both should fall, while the Tar Heels rise, it would be to me sublime! Either way please don't feel insulted by my envenomed rhyme!

BUT: I don't believe the answer is copying the things we say are wrong in others. I think it is doing things The Tar Heel Way after adjusting to the times in which we live. Roy has adjusted and now we will harvest the fruits!

No problem of what you are saying. And on the scope of NCAA basketball. We are still elite. But we haven't really haven't been playing at that Elite level the last few years. And that's why I said get back to our Elite status.

Duke doesn't get recruits because the Nets show up for a week or two in October.

They get recruits because they win titles, produce NBA talent, have a beautiful campus, and a hell of an academic reputation. All things that are true of UNC as well.

Guys, recruiting has peaks and valleys. Duke is in a peak right now as we were 10 years ago. It happens. Bringing the Hornets to UNC for a week won't change that.

I get your point my friend. But this team has been preseason ranked in the Top 10 almost every year the last few years.Only to not live up to the hype. Not saying it can't happen this year. As far as a Natty. But I'm the old believer this is basically the same team as last year and the year before. Now if we can find more outside shooting this year to help the inside guys. Then the sky's the limit. Need better balance between inside outside. We depend on MP why to much for the outside shooting. Hopefully with Williams coming in he is ready to light it up from the outside. And hopefully other players we have already here get better to as far as shooting. We have plenty of bigs. But can't get any space when everyone packs inside except who ever is covering MP. But we are taking this thread away from its original point.

K and dook will always just be K and dook....they will never ever be UNC....and that my friends is what pisses them off to no end...no matter how hard they try..no matter how hard they work at it..no matter how may stunts k pulls.....he will always just be k and dook! Give them a break...that is a big burden to handle!

We have played to elite status a well. We came very close to getting to the FF last year with just a few things breaking our way and we have been derailed by injuries other years as well wherein we could have won it all. Secondly, this is NOT the same team! MP, JB, and Theo are HEALTHY; KM and JJames are in the best shape of their lives; KW is an added SHOOTER; JJackson has recovered his scoring ability and is poised for a breakout; BJohnson by all accounts is fully committed to playing hard all the time. This, my friend, is an entirely new team that is tested, deep, and experienced!

MP, JB, JJ, KW, NBritt have all been good shooters in the past and I expect them to show up this year and the Rat King's hypocritical claims that he leads men while he skirts the rules will not have any bearing on us!

Well, well... So you are asserting that Roy has not done as good of a job as you expected?? Sorry about that and UNC would have had a Natty in 2012 except for Kendall getting injured. Football at Kenan is indeed great this time of year. Hope those Heels live up to their potential as well...

I'm not going to get in a pissing contest with y'all. You all make great points. And Roy has done a good job with what has been dealt to him. But every year just like in football everyone hypes up the season like this is the one. We do have the talent to get there. But injuries are part of the game. And I have heard the same chatter from y'all and the media the last two years. But things happen. If it's chemistry, injuries, or to me that has been our biggest problem is outside shooting. I know also players get better every year. And hope that's the case. But I'm not going to beat my chest and say we are the best until I see how this team has gotten better. And if you don't understand that than I'm sorry. I don't go by preseason polls either. We were ranked in the Top 10 the last two years because we have coming back. As far as someone talking about the year of Kendall Marshall. I'm not talking from that far back. And those who on here know me I comment on what I see on the field or on the court. Sometimes you will agree sometime you won't. We haven't even started practice yet. Unless they started today or the last few days. So I haven't seen this years team play together yet. So if you can't except that I'm sorry. And last years Sweet 16 doesn't mean anything to me. Having a good year is one thing. But having a GREAT YEAR and winning the whole thing is all I want. I'm sure the coaches and kids aren't happy with getting to the Sweet 16. Well I hope that's not there goal. And. You the person I quoted. I'm not a football only guy. I just don't follow all the recruits and who's good and who's not during the offseason. That's what these coaches and scouts jobs. The only reason I don't post on here right now as much is it not Basketball Seaon now. GO HEELS!!!!!!

And yet you always do. ;)

It is RARE to get to win it all, great as Dean was he only did it twice. Yes, we always expect to get there, we are Carolina! But it is rare air.

It true. I do get baited in. But you know me and understand. But it just seemed he was acting like I'm a football homer and don't know anything about basketball. I'm sorry if I don't think we have been playing to Elite status as of late. And that I mean the last two years. I know there is many reasons. The cloud. Making it hard to get the true Elite players to come here from HS. And as far as on the court. I just still think we have just missed having outside shooting besides MP. Not saying the others haven't gotten better during the off season. But I haven't seen it yet. I think we have enough talent inside. But with no outside shooting or should I say lack of consistent outside shooting. It just makes it crowed inside for the bigs to operate. So until they get on the court and show what they can actually do. How do you really know.

Personally and I think most Tar Heel fans agree, we have been over ranked pre-season for the last 2 or 3 years, I actually don't think we are over ranked this time. Yeah, I do have some questions, in other words I don't see us like Ky fans saw Ky last season, but I do like the potential answers to my questions.

Now we for sure have had a run of bad luck, PJ issues, Bullock leaving un-expectedly, JMM leaving sooner than expected, and of course injury that limited Paige and pretty much all our PGs other than Britt last season. This of course all in addition to the NCAA cloud that seems to never go away. JP leaving early was also un-expected but IMO will not hurt nearly as bad as maybe not having a PJ/JMM/Bullock leave sooner than expected.

Law of averages says extended periods of bad luck get evened out by extended periods of good luck and lord knows we are due.

We went for nearly a month last season and all we could do at practice was shoot arounds and some one on one work because every PG we had other than Britt was injured. We went in to last season with 5 PGs that would all start for many D-1 programs and 4 of those 5 could not run in practice for over a month. It caught up with us is the simple fact, as the season gets on you have to practice to keep up with everyone else and we were just not able to do that. IMO we were absolutely one of the 5 best teams in the county in Dec, duke wasn't, we were but the lack of practice killed us and we never really recovered. Point is stuff happens during the season that is not expected and we have had some historic runs of bad luck.

If we can stay healthy this season I feel strongly we are one of the top 3 teams in the country, we will lose a game or 2 we shouldn't, we always do but this team healthy has a great shot to cut down the final nets.

See I like that. Everything you said is true. But all I'm trying to really say is our outside shooting is the most important thing this year. And they have to do it during a game. Even Roy said it last year. And I can't remember who he was talking about. But he said he doesn't miss them in practice. Now I also can't remember if that was FTs or 3s. But again with a more consistent outside game is the key. We have the horses down low. Just need a little more room to operate. GO HEELS!!!!!!,

Bobby, look at the numbers from the ACC-NCAA tourneys, we shot pretty dern good from 3. We will be right there with anybody shooting from outside.

So chapel heeled

You're saying if Kendall doesn't get hurt in 2012 UNC wins the Championship?

I know there's a lot of what ifs and all. But I think UK was the favorite.

Sometimes the favorites don't always win JC.;)

Ok I probally need to then. But then again we made nice runs in both tourneys. Probally because we shot better from the outside.

Berry-Jackson-Paige-Williams and yes Maye too can all shoot the 3 ball very well, and Theo ain't no slouch. We will be fine from 3.

I am not saying we would have won had Kendal not gotten hurt and personally I have never suggested that we would have (many do just not me). But anyone would have to admit our chances of winning would have been much better had kendal not been hurt. UNC and Ky had already played early that season and thou Ky did win it was a very tight game and a game that frankly, we didn't play as well as we did later season. I do think it would have been a much better game than your final game was and I don't jknow who would have won it but it would have darn sure become a classic.

I don't disagree bobby, I do maybe more differ in my feeling that I feel great about our back court if we can stay healthy, my un-answerred questions are about our front court. WE are not a long front court, we rely on 6'9" fellas that other than Brice don't have that long reach aspect. Joel doesn't really play like he is 6'10", Brice much of the time doesn't either, Meeks has for his first 2 seasons been barely able to dunk the ball, and Hicks is a work in progress. We struggled last season against longer teams and we struggled with physical front courts. I need to see how that have been helped by the off season work before I can get real excited.

I know Brice has put in more weight room work and gained some lbs, does he use it to be more physical or does he continue to fall away jump shoot and not draw the fouls he could. I see Meeks looks like he is in great shape but how does that improved shape translate in to on the court play? Will he be able now to catch the ball in deep and explode up & thru contact to finish? Hicks is a solid athlete and has added some beef over the summer but how does that translate? And I loved the way Joel James came on late last season, does he continue on that upward arch or were we treated to his career highlites last season? What can Luke bring to this mix, is he Jackson Simmons or is he more? Not saying our front court is weak, I am saying I have questions that I do not yet have the answers to and can not until they start tipping off and games start being played.

This team has to defensive rebound better and it needs to defend opposing front courts with more physicallity, shooting does not win if we don't stop the other team from scoring.

Shooting, IMO JP taking himself out of the mix imeadiately helps our jump shooting, now IMO you are looking at starting Berry/Paige/Jackson and that is a strong shooting trio, weakest being Berry but his job is not so much to shoot but be able to splash if they leave you alone to double someone else and he showed more than being just able to do this last season. But as well being able to call on Britt, who shot much better last season became actually a 3pt threat that has to be respected. Theo, IMO not a great jump shooter but is a very active scorer, and kenny is a sweet shooting freshman that will get some court time. Don't know that I see another back court in the country as deep & talented.

One huge key for me and the coming season is will we be able to run again? WE used to be the best running team in the college game, Roy loved the amped up pace and we wore teams down with it. But that has for the most part disappeared since kendal left. We have to defensive rebound to get the running game cranked up, we now have the depth to make it work, can we get it done on the boards to allow it to ignite?

Shooting did get better as the year went on last year. And not saying it hasn't gotten better during the offseason. But why would teams play zone against us if they were capable. Poor outside shooting. Stayed on Paige and dared everyone else to beat you from the outside. But that became less as you said because JJ got better.

I can easy answer why teams zoned us so much, our 2 guard, a position other wise known as "shooting" guard was played by JP Tokoto. Coaches (opponents) knew, JP shooting was exactly what they wanted to see, leave him, dare him, bribe him, beg him to jump shoot. It was an EASY double on Paige, Leave JP and don't worry about him as long as he is standing 30 feet from the basket.

Recall, Berry first part of the season did not shoot well, his PT was so limited that he really couldn't get in to the feel of the game. Recall as well later season when his PT increased his shot vastly improved, he to was dared to hit the open shot, Britt was as well, but when they both proved they could hit that open shot, the doubles on Paige decreased and we did not see nearly as much zone. Notice that Jackson's touch returned as we began to get scoring from the 1 & 2 spots, he started to get cleaner looks.

One thing I really wanted to see late season was our PGs breaking in to the zone with the dribble and kicking back to the open shooters, Berry can do that and started to a bit more as his PT increased. But Berry struck me as as not really feeling like he was a full fledged guy in our rotation, like he was feeling his way around, got better later season but I still felt some of that even as his PT increased. I don't think that will be a problem this season, I think he knows he is our PG, the guy that drives things for us. If this kid gets his confidence rolling and it started to come on last season late, he is gonna be really really special. Don't be surprised to see Berry end up 2nd or 3rd team all ACC after this season.
