Yes, we need to take care of our own business, period. Win them all and we win the division. Hasn't been a Coastal winner in what, 5 or 6 years, that had less than 2 league Ls, has there? So, let's look at what the other Coastal teams have left:

Pitt- at Cuse, UNC, at Dook, daVille, and Miami
Dook-@ VaTech, Miami, @UNC, Pitt, @ UVa, @ wake
Miami- Clemson, @ Dook, uva, @ UNC, GT, @ Pitt
VaTech- Dook, @ BC, @GT, UNC, @ uva
uva- @UNC, GT, @ Miami, @ daVille, Dook, va tech
GT- FSU, @ uva, va Tech, @ Miami, UGa

GT is a disaster; they're staring 3-9 in the face. Uva may get to 4-5 Ws (home tilts w/ Dook and va tech could be interesting). Can't see Miami coming home w/ fewer than 3 losses, w/ 4 or 5 more likely. I think Pitt splits w/ UNC & Dook best case, and also w/ daVille/Miami....2 Ls. Dook has 3 dangerous games @ VT, at uva, and Miami, in addition to tossups @ UNC and w/ Pitt.

I really think if we TCOB vs hoos, and beat Dook and Pitt, we'll only need to W 1 of the 3 games vs. Miami, vt, and moo. But heck, let's win 'em all.

I was thinking about the remaining schedules for us and Pitt and Duke this morning while in the shower. Couldn't remember Pitt's crossover besides Cuse.

Louisville!!! That could really, really save our butts. UofL is more than capable of beating Pitt.

At absolute best, I think we can only drop 2 games and still claim the Coastal. Like you, I see Duke dropping at least a couple -- I still think Pitt is the team to worry about. As much as it would "sour" the national appeal of our matchup with them a week from today, I really want them to lose to Cuse this weekend. That would help us for sure. I think Duke goes down in Blacksburg this weekend.

Take care of business Saturday then on to Pitt for arguably our toughest game all year. If we start slow in this one it might be no recovering. If we can win these 2 then I will start thinking about Coastal title.

Yeah if we beat UVA and Pitt, then I'll start to allow myself to dream.

The good news is...for better or for worse, 16 days from now, we'll know 100% if we have a chance at the Coastal or not. In that span, we'll play UVA, at Pitt, and Duke. Win those 3 and we're the only team in the Coastal on the lead lap. Beat UVA and split Pitt and Duke, we have an outside shot.

The Pitt and Duke games are intense, two-game swing games.

A perfect weekend would include a win by UNC and losses by Pitt, dook, and Moo.

It's still too early to get excited about our chances. Everyone is talking about Pitt and dook, but even Miami could sneak right back into the race. Winning our next three would certainly put us in a great spot but it still wouldn't guarantee anything with Miami, @VT, and @Moo left on the schedule.

With regard to the champ game, which counts first, the overall conference winning percentage or your winning percentage within your division?

My guess is the former, and this kinda sucks for the Miami since their perennial rival is FSU
(and gatech has to play clemson every yr ), meanwhile Dook gets wake, Pitt gets Cuse.

I think I gripe about this every yr, but forget how it works every yr. So... this w/e is Pitt's game vs Cuse...

You're correct, it's based on your 8-game conference record. A win/loss against an Atlantic foe counts the same as a win against our divisional opponents. And yes, it's very unfair to Miami and Georgia Tech.

Why would you want Pitt to lose? Im wanting a ranked UNC vs a ranked Pitt team next Thursday

B/c the more league losses by Pitt, Dook, and Miami while we keep winning is best for UNC? I'll refrain from any more clarifications on why this is....it SHOULD be self-evident.
This. I'd rather teams make it easier on us by losing. Do I want to just win out instead? Yes. But let's be honest, history says that won't happen. Therefore, I want everyone else to beat up on each other. May hurt how high we get ranked....but so be it.

All 3 could be very tough for us. UVA is playing for London's job, and the Hoos are more talented than the record suggests. Narduzzi inspires his players, and he seems to have eased naturally into being Pitt HC. It's like he already has 3 or 4 years of HC experience elsewhere. Cutcliffe wants to beta UNC mo0re than anybody.

If we start with stupid mistakes against any of those 3, we could find it tough to climb out of the hole. They are not like Wake. Wake has only 6 seniors on the whole team and, I think, has the most freshmen on the 2 deep of any team in the country.

This. But to be fair to the Heels, it's not just our history that indicates we won't go unbeaten. That is the reality in the Coastal; the division cannabilizes itself yearly. The other teams won't fail to lose, either.

I want Pitt to win. I want us to win out and seriously become a program on the rise

That would be the best outcome I admit. But I won't lie, I'm terrified about the Pitt game. I feel OK about the Duke game, but I'm terrified about the Pitt game. A very, very good defense who excels at blitzing (and getting those blitzers to the QB), a solid running back, and an All-ACC WR who will play on Sundays.

I mean no offense, but that sentiment seriously makes no sense. In fact, it is contraindicated. Our national rep is solidified just as much by beating a 2 loss Pitt team on the road as a one loss Pitt team. Not one whit of difference. OTOH, Pitt having a league loss when we go up there REALLY helps us, as a bit of pressure would be alleviated on our still solidifying program.

Meh. It makes sense, even if just a little. Beating a 6-1 Pitt team is better than 5-2. Beating a 7-1 dook team is better than 6-2. Etc.

But I understand our fans (including me) just aren't able to conceive of running the conference table. Only 2010 VT has gone undefeated in the Coastal since the divisions were created in 2005. Heck, I'll be excited if UNC finally finishes above .500 in conference. We just don't have any programs as strong as FSU or Clemson, including us, so we have to root for other teams to lose.

I guess my point is that a win over 6-1 Pitt vs 5-2 Pitt is no real diff b/c it's Pitt (or Dook). 6-1 Alabama vs 5-2 Bama, now that would be a win on another level.

2 6-1 ACC teams on Thurs night is a cool game nationally, but it doesn't shake down the thunder....

Umm do you think A&M beating a 5-2 Ole Miss would be the same as them being 6-1. Its common sense dude. News flash we need quality wins!! So yeah i want pitt at 6-1 and Duke at 7-1

No we need WINS, period....quality or "non-quality." I want to go to the ACCCG any way we can. I don't care if we finish 4-4 and somehow still find a way in. A championship game berth would do absolute wonders for this program.

Getting ranked would be nice, but come on, we aren't in the running for the playoffs any way you slice it, so quality wins don't mean much for us at this point.

Quality wins perpaee us for next year. Look at Tcu and Clemson and Utah how they finished

The Acc needs Duke, Pitt, and UNC to be ranked in that 15-20 range. In order for our title game and conference wins to mean something, we need the Championship game to feature a top 5 team and another highly ranked team. Miami hurt the conference by losing to Cincy. Based on their name alone, they would have been in the top25 at 4-0.
