Charlotte Independence defensive tackle Christian Colon is committed to Penn State but that hasn’t stopped UNC from trying to reach out.
Gunter Brewer is UNC’s area recruiter for Colon and he’s one of the coaches that the big defensive tackle got to know the best earlier in his recruitment.
Since committing to Penn State the 6-foot-3, 309-pound lineman has seemed to be happy with his future plans to join James Franklin’s program. And he said this week that although UNC and others have reached out, he’s not wavering.
“A lot of schools have kept coming,” Colon said. “They’re coming but I can’t really return the favor because I’ve been committed to Penn State.”
Colon said UNC, Syracuse and UCLA are some of the schools that have tried to reach out since he committed to Penn State. While being respectful of his verbal commitment to another school, the coaches from the Tar Heel, Bruin and Orange staffs have made it clear they would like for Colon to continue to keep him in mind unless anything happens or in the case of a change of heart. There’s still six months until Signing Day.
Lots of commitments visit other schools before Signing Day but Colon isn’t sure if he will go anywhere other than Happy Valley. The coaches at the aforementioned schools have made it clear they would like for him to make trips.
“I don’t know at this time,” was Colon’s simple response to the question.
He’s excited about Penn State’s season just around the corner. Many believe the Nittany Lions are going to be very improved, and Colon said “they’re going to shock a lot of people.” He plans to attend their games against Michigan and Rutgers.
