Connelly's preview: 5 wins

Assuming recruiting can keep up it's momentum, I would be ok with five wins as long as we look competitive in our losses. Five wins would certainly look better than the last couple of years.

i'm not ok with five wins, not at all. last year's team drastically underachieved with very poor coaching. this year there's too much talent on the field and the coaching staff to have a losing season. i'm ok with mack not having a great season his first year back, but no more losing seasons! the cupboard is not that bare.

Just 5 would be disappointing. If that is enough to keep the recruiting class up, then it is encouraging future-wise, but i'm guessing Fed's offense alone combined with some health would eek out 6 wins.

"...even if Fedora had remained the head coach, the Tar Heels would have been projected to improve by three or four wins"

Yeah, I fully expect a winning season. We have decent talent and a much better staff. We’ll score points.

Can we defend? I’m convinced Bateman will have use tackling better right off the bat. That alone will make a big difference. We need our DL to stay healthy because we don’t have much depth.

Let people sleep on us. There are valid reasons for so many to think that both Miami and VT will step back up with a couple of wins more, and so finish 1 and 2 in the Coastal. But UNC could be in the race to the end, if we avoid the injury bug and make progress on both sides of the ball, especially the D side.

The 2019 Tar Heels could be 8-4 with a share of the Coastal.

And I prefer that pundits write us off as a 5 win team that must wait until at least 2020 to make any mark.

Bill Connelly put out his Pitt preview, he thinks they step back. UVA, Miami and Vt aren't out yet, but he sees them as improved compared to last yr.
