A team of walking (and non-walking) wounded. The great Tommy LaGarde out and done, Phil out after the mugging he received the game before from Digger Phelps' ND thugs. "Sweet D" with a busted up shooting hand. And still they damned near won it all.
Everyone had written them off for this game, but John Kuester -- one of my all-time favorite Heels --- stepped in and showed that having a starting backcourt of 2 PGs can be a pretty damned good idea (hello?) and come in pretty handy. The tourney was also freshman Mike O'Koren's coming-out party.
Damn, I loved that team growing up.
