Nobody is more critical of Fed than me, but I'm not so proud of my opinion as to fail to give the man kudos when deserved. The onsides kick was a bonehead move, but he made ALOT of good moves today that were textbook. The Marquise option was a great call; option teams hate to be optioned, particularly from teams that don't run it a ton. The sweep-reverse toss-throwback to the QB was a gutsy call, and NOBODY saw that coming, which is a perfect time for such a call.

Bottom line, he earned his paycheck today, and I think it's important that those who criticize him harshly when he deserves it also recognize when he's due praise. We BEAT Tech today; they didn't give us anything.

A win is a win. We tougher it out in tough game and town for the Heels to win today. Our guys and coaches didn't quit!!!!! There are far too many armchair quarterbacks on these threads. It's extremely hard to beat tech. We beat tech today on the total team and coaching staff's efforts. Can we please encourage our coaches and the team with praise when they deserve it??? And as for the coach's decision to start Marquise, looks like the coach was the smart one today. We can't get the results of the SC game, but we can keep winning like we are - with positive support from Our Fans. GO HEELS!!!!!!!! Armchair quarterbacks and armchair coaches, root for someone else.

There have been plenty of legitimate criticisms of Fed but today the whole staff did a great job. Chizik looks more like a miracle worker every passing week.

The on sides kick to me wasn't bone headed. Sorry. Just was a bad kick. The way GT offense was in the first half. Would you rather them drive 80 yards or 45 yards and use less time. We hadn't really stopped them the whole game to that point.

The onside kick is one of the reasons I love Fedora .... as opposed to ultra conservative borrrrrrring Torbush/Bunting, etc.

Well said. Fed gets a ton of criticism here, quite a bit of it warranted, but it was a total team/staff effort today. I haven't been as proud in a Carolina football team in years. After getting down by 21, I had very little confidence we could win. Amazing.

Here is the Big Question from this game: What happened that turned the D from what we saw in the 1st quarter to the D that stood fast and tough throughout the 2nd half and slugged GT, playing smart football?

Boring doesn't necessarily equate to bad football. Most of the time, definitely not. That was a stupid call, after a Heel FG got us to within 4....and it was soooo telegraphed.

Fed did a good job today, but THAT was a dumb call. Our D was beginning to play a bit better. Poor timing.

I was wondering the exact same thing.

Bobby, great point.

Have to agree that the onsides didn't bother me too much because I think Fedora was sending a message to his team that he would call or do whatever it took to get this win....In the end, I think the team bought into that message themselves, and gutted-out the victory....

Great win! and great start to ACC. I my confidence in Fedora is still lacking. One win will not prove himself to me, it will be the full schedule. I actually liked the onsides kick, didn't work, but worth the risk. I still do not get the limited use of Hood and Logan, but apparently just not going to use them enough. UNC beat a team that I didn't think they were going to. Now, they have to beat some teams they are supposed to and UNC will be in the thick of things.

my theory: chop blocks. it's different practicing it all week with teammates who aren't trying to hurt you. our guys got used to it as the game wore on, and probably got a good pep talk from chizik at half-time that fraidy cats don't win.

yep. the main reason the heels pulled of this unlikely win was a united team. benching williams last week was a wake up call after his poor performance, but fedora balanced that out by not strongly praising trubisky. that could have created a divisive quarterback controversy. fedora stood by williams who is popular with his teammates and the result was a team effort. i've been as critical as anybody when fedora made stupid mistakes, but that was smart.

now let's see if fedora learned from his mistake last year after the dook win -- letting the team over-celebrate which caused them to be overconfident and unprepared the following week against ncsu. we'll see...

And just great all-around effort by the guys today. I will admit I had zero faith once we went down 21-0 but we responded so so well.
I said Game Over when they were up 14-0 and we punted it back. Before the 21-0 score. Again I'm Glad the kids and coaches didn't give up when I did.
