Daily Drop: How Close is the OL to Having Necessary Depth?

What has happened to Eli Sutton?
Same that happens to half the other lineman in the world. They put 80 pounds onto their big frames then either lose mobility or keep it due to the weight, stay healthy or get ding'd up potentially due to the weight, struggle with speed of the game or the "gelling" aspect required of modern college fball.

I had hoped that OL coaches and the trainers would be backing away from making guys add a whole bunch of weight. It does ruin many of them, making them too slow, too cumbersome. And then that is made worse as they start doubting and questioning everything about themselves.

Willie Lampkin is not 310, much less 325, and he can flat play. Yes, against a huge and very strong DL he could get pushed around a lot, but there should be no doubt that he is better at 285-90 than he could be at 310. Mobility, deft footwork, and stamina are all extremely important for OL play.

What's up with Rice? Has he turned into another flop for us?
Just a RS Freshman. He played against some extremely weak competition in HS and is adapting to the higher quality level of play. Will be in line to start next year but hopefully will get some reps in some blowouts this year.

Assuming he is around next year. With the hype he was getting I was at least expecting him to be second string this year. Third string doesn't give me confidence he's going to meet expectations.

I think he knows himself he isn't ready based on his performance since arriving on campus. Hopefully he can keep working hard and get better heading into next year with Montilus, Rolland, Gaynor and possibly Barnes moving on. I've got a bigger problem with Sutton. He's a 4 star, been around longer than Rice and can't sniff 3rd string.
