Daily Drop: How Does Elliot Cadeau Affect UNC's Offensive Approach?

I believe most of us would love to see an offense that looks to run at every opportunity. We’re certainly built for it if we can rebound at a high level. Cadeau is the perfect PG to run an uptempo offense. I think we have the athletic depth to perhaps press or trap occasionally. I’m not worried about our offense with Cadeau at PG. I want to see more effort defensively and fierce rebounding. The ceiling for this team is pretty high if they gel properly. I think having a pass first point will keep everyone happy so I don’t anticipate the chemistry issues of last year.

sure, that's true. but there are times when the fast break is simply not available. not team ever got through a successful season without a good half-court offense. last year our set offense looked like playground pick up games at their worse, players taking the first available shot good or bad because if you passed it off you were unlikely to touch the ball again on that possession. playmaking, working the ball, running plays, team offense setting picks, moving w/out the ball, etc etc. these are things cadeau will correct, i hope.

Jimmy, you are right that last season our set plays looked like play ground ball, may I speak to why that was? AJ did a fantastic job of explaining it but you may not have put the pieces together in how they fit. The key is what RJ told AJ, that they simply did not practice free lance much if at all and that the other teams were set and ready for the set play calls, so the set plays bogged down and we reverted to free lance that we did not practice. So what you locked in on was free lance that was not practiced and I PROMISE YOU that looks like catch as catch can street ball, your turn my turn kalipari like nonsense. That is FAR FAR away from what UNC free lance actually is, it is a motion offense with defined set principles that can not be ignored and they were constantly because they were not practiced as they should have been.

He should help us in the half court as much as in pushing tempo.

Again, this falls on the coach. I hope HD learned from last year and maximize the potential available. Can't shy away from what works.
