Is meeting North Carolina's basketball standard a must for Hubert Davis in his fifth year at the helm?
Daily Drop: Is Meeting the Standard in Year 5 Make or Break for Davis?

For me to see the end of next season and feel Hubert is the guy we need it is going to take a strong uphill climb that is all straight uphill. This is year 5 in a career that has this fan base very alarmed. Hubert is very fortunate that he gets this one last season to show that he has progressed as a coach. IN many ways this coming season will be much more a referendum on Hubert that it will be on his players.
Hubert simply has to show this season, from game 1, first that his team comes out every game ready to compete for 40mins rather than just 20. He has to show a solid well defined approach on both ends of the court that is adjusted for the players he has. I need to see players properly fitted to position, I need to see screens set that are effective and not just the ghost screen BS. I need to see players movement that moves the defense with crisp safe passing rather than the standing around waiting for someone else to do something else. I need to see us controlling the boards, I need to see us constantly attacking on the offensive end as opposed to the pound the ball for 15sec of wasted shot clock.
Defensively I need to see guys get down in a stance and defend, switch when you have to but enough with the switches that are not needed. I think this team can lead with it's defense, our back court should be much better defensively and our front court has solid length, I am concerned with who backs up Veesaar but hopefully James and High can get that job done effectively. I need to see UNC come out for every opening tip ready and geared to pound the other team thru the court, that killer instinct that has us get the other team down and step on their throats.
These things will show me Hubert has progressed as a coach to the extent that he should continue to be our coach. I will say very clearly, I do not expect to see all of these things occur but I do not expect to see Hubert as our coach past the coming season either.
