Daily Drop: Will Hubert Davis Play His Bench This Season?

One more 10min ad run for a mental health company is going to have me needing the services of a mental health company! LOL Oh by the way AJ, felt like I needed sun glasses, seemed to be a really STRONG GLOW coming from my screen? LOL

On a serious note, next PC you get with Hubert could you get him to address the question of can we expect to see them running a lot more UNC primary and secondary breaks? Pretty sure I know the answer but would like to see how Hubert would respond. I think that leads directly to the question of how deep he will use his bench, I think the 2 go hand in hand.

BetterHelp definitely wants a long read, but for those in need, it's a really good company.

And yes - I'm shining!!!

Yes, I will ask Hubert about that. Mark it down!

My answer to the initial question is “He better or his leash is going to get much shorter, much quicker than he would like”.
Was about to post the same…. If he plays short rotations and ends up having to rebuild the roster again due to player dissatisfaction…. Well, the seat will be so hot his pants will be burning.

A lot depends on how the bench players develop and perform. Will Trimble still be a liability on offense? Will Washington still be a liability on defense when he has to guard the perimeter? Can Withers actually play SF without constantly turning the ball over? Will Wojcik continue to shoot poorly against teams that aren't low majors/Ivy League teams like he has his whole college career?

I personally don't expect High or Wojcik to contribute this year outside of a few cupcake OOC games. So right now, best case scenario, we go 9 deep. But it wouldn't surprise me if it's less than that.

I'm still holding out hope we'll see a decent grad transfer wing jump in the portal in the next couple of weeks, and we can get a true backup SF.

Does having the transfer portal make you play a guy? This what I mean. If you recruit a guy from high school you don't promise anything but a chance to compete, and during there four years they will grow as men, and get an opportunity with in that four year span to shine.

If I get a transfer with two years left of eligibility, he is more than likely wanting a bigger role than his previous squad, and almost looking for that guarantee, if that is the case we will go ten deep no problem.

Allot of smart people on this board, with allot of basketball knowledge, until we see this team as a unit or as dsouthr says, learn more about HD vision of how we look, who knows how deep he goes into his bench.

Our freshman have all the NBA talent, but our transfers, and veteran players are probably going to to help us win faster. If you don't play the young NBA talent, they are leaving next year.

Bench development is my biggest concern. UNC has a pretty rough OOC schedule. If the choice is play a 6 man rotation and go undefeated or play the bench for extended minutes and pick up 3 losses I will take the latter.

The Heels do not have a starting 5 that goes deep into March. They do have (it seems at least until we see different) enough guys to play fast, spread the floor and wear out the opposing team. I REALLY want to get back to seeing the other team completely gassed at the 12 minute TO wondering if they will make it to halftime.

He will play his bench!

He is too smart not to AND they are talented and experienced enough to demand it! He will play more Secondary break and platoon stuff so we can play faster. He will play multiple D and scramble enough to create nightmares. We will have 3 guys shooting at least 36% from 3 and 2 more who scare peeps on the perimeter! AND Withers will start at 4 alongside Cadeau, RJ, Ingram, and Bacot! Oh, and UNC will be king again within 2 years! Now that all questions are answered, let's prepare to argue about players' facial expressions on the bench! (or TO usage)

Well.... if you want some sobering perspective, about 4 weeks ago I was playing golf with a HIGH SCHOOL football coach down here (powerhouse public school in metro ATL), and he lost a HS FRESHMAN last year to a California public HS that offered a huge NIL package and took care of his parents.

Not gonna mention any names, but his words:
"So now I've got this kid who just came up from Middle School, and he's gonna be a D1 recruit in another year or two. He really ain't ready just yet and I'm loaded at WR, but if I don't get him in the rotation THIS season, I gonna f***ing lose him too."

Man, I'm glad I got outta coaching........ o_O

I'll just say that everyone here should listen closely to AJ around the 16-17 minute marks when he goes into detail answering Jacob's devil's advocate question.

And @andrew jones , brother, that's the best thing you've done on here. Spot on with coaching philosophies, etc...
and FTR, my intel has me leaning to your conclusion as well.
