Dakich is so hypercritical of UNC

His take on the NCAA issues are actually pretty refreshing, or were last night. Maybe he got some mass emails from CrackRide to better "inform" him on our "evil-doing".

He was way over the top tonight in just slandering the entire history of Tar Heel basketball. Screw the POS chump. I have no idea what he has ever done in basketball, or how he claims to know enough to have an announcer job..... and I don't care to know. If I never hear him again, that'd be fine.

Yeah, that whole "since 1984 UNC has always lacked toughness" is pretty lame when analyzed against the FACTS. IN 32 seasons, inclusive of 84, UNC has won 3 national titles, been to 9 Final Fours, and 6 more Elite Eights. That's 15 of 32 years where UNC has been among the last 8 teams standing. Given the player turnover in college ball, toughness is a prerequisite for that level of accomplishment. Now, do we manifest our toughness via over the top drama outbursts, floor slapping, head and body flops, and man hugs and man/ass attacks when the camera is on? No, we do it thru execution and attention to detail.

I'm not going to be that hard on Dakich. Let's don't forget what he said during the NW game about other coaches blaming the NCAA academic scandal on Roy. He went on a tirade against rival coaches. Also, the Heels are still giving up too many uncontested lay-ups.

i balance that against some very negative unfair things he said and he comes out even. he's not on my sh;t list but he's not one of the good guys either.

an interesting point dakich made was about pinson's poor shooting form. he backed off a bit when theo hit that clutch jumper but i think he was right. a great athlete will make some shots due to his perceptual-motor ability, but the correct shooting form is about consistency. right now theo is a decent shooter -- fix his form and he could be one of the best jump shooters in the country.

I just flat out don't like his style of announcing....the guy is critical about everything and thinks he knows how to fix it....if he was THAT good, he would probably be a College or NBA Head Coach....but he is NOT! I hate guys that are critical of everything....that to me is not the job of a good color guy!!!!

He also proved that he really doesn't know jack squat when towards the end of the game he said that he would foul JJ based on the FT percentages....I was like go ahead..they did and he promptly nailed them both!!!

I had to laugh when Dandy Dan was saying that Kstate should put Justin
on the free throw line late in the game last night. Justin struggled shooting
from everywhere the first three games. He has lit it up the past three
games and is 12 of 13 on free throws in the last three games. Just
tells you that stats from a limited sampling are useless. I wanted Berry
on the line first and then Justin. He is in a groove now and did shoot
71% from the line last year. Go Heels!!

I thought the Heels looked tough during that 21-3 run, kind of made him look stupid on that one

I like what he said about the AFAM BS. He was pretty much the only announcer I have heard call that for exactly what it is - an academic problem, NOT a basketball problem. And to tell it like it is, that any opposing coach telling prospects to avoid UNC due to "penalties" from the investigation is a LIAR! That is Huge. I thank him for that.

Other than that though, Jockitch can go hump a cactus. :D

The guy has decent analysis (theo's shot) poor homework (jj's free throws) and opinions, lots and lots of opinions.
While it was great to hear his take on AFAM (how about the rocks for jocks line!) overall he voices his feelings too much with too little "analysis".which is really what he's there for.
Guy should get off the pulpit and start calling it straight.

OK - I was curious, just had to Google Jockitch under his real name. I guess he was an OK player at IU. If he was "all that" or even sufficient as a coach, they'd have kept him on at Indiana U.

There have been plenty of opportunities for a smart, great coach to fill the void after Knight, and no attempts have been successful, and many have been embarrassing jokes (either from a coaching or a program leadership standpoint).

If he were a great basketball mind and leader, he'd have received a long term shot to coach IU. He isn't, so he didn't.

Seems like he has some questionable skeletons in the closet in his personal life, too. I don't care enough to look them up, I just think that should make him think twice about taking so many personal cheap shots at others on national TV, when those people can't even defend themselves.

Pls expand upon his skeletons, Heelicious. After he slandered our program's history for lack of "toughness" (note how ALL of DD's cheap shots are both not proveable, nor disproveable), I'm going on a mission to smear that lousy bastard! Today, the TV guys aren't the only ones w/ a mass outlet.

It just seemed like he had a lot of stuff come up about a messy divorce and how he totally treated his (ex) wife like crap and o think basically admitted to having an affair with some mother of an IU student that was connected to the basketball program. But again o didn't look into it too much. I'm just rumor mongering at this point? I admit. He's not worth the time.

If any one ever read Season on the Brink it portrays Dakich as Knights whipping boy. He was pretty much a inept Jack Ass. I guess playing for Knight rubbed off on him.

I remember a couple years ago dakich was guest on David Glenn show. Talked about how Roy was so similar to Coach Smith in that if they did not have exceptional talent then their teams struggled. Went on to talk about how knight was able to over-achieve and he could get so much out of his players. Not gonna argue that Roy's 2 title teams were LOADED with nba picks but comparing Smith's title rosters with Knight's is interesting.

Knight's 3 title teams had 14 players ultimately drafted in top 3 rounds, 7 1st-rounders, 6 2nd-rounders and 1 3rd. His '76 roster put 6 guys in top 3 rounds, '81 team had 5 and ''87 team had 3.
Smith's teams had 6 players drafted in top 3, 5 1st-rounders, no 2nd and 1 3rd. '82 roster had 4 guys drafted in top 3 rounds and '93 had 2.

Knight's '76 team should have run the table - 3 first round picks (all in first 11) and a 3rd that year with the #1 overall pick the following year. Smith's '93 team had only 2 guys eventually drafted, Lynch that year and Montross the next. Maybe knight did need to have the talent after all.
