I don't talk stuff, but I feel for Dennis Smith Jr for choosing the Wolfies..(he knew JB was our man) I do wish him the best, but it's a wonder why he wouldn't go to a legit NCTitle team. State looks bad right now. Illini are a bad team this year and working them like a rib bone ..

Not me. If you walk on State's campus and commit yourself to Gott and that brick shit yard, especially when you have your pick of the litter- you deserve what's coming.

I agree that you must reap what you sow, but I wonder what could convince you that Gott could lead any group of players to any kind of success?

Karma is a B, isn't it Pups?

$$$$.... money talks. He is only going to be there for 4 more months so he could care less. Go to a school that will showcase him for the NBA. He is a projected lottery pick. He didn't go to the State for a title. He gets his shoe deal in a few months and people involved get their cut. NCAA can't touch this.

Yeah I'm with Steat, this was probably a money play. He knew he'd get the opportunity to play 30mpg and get that top 5 paycheck. Which is exactly what is going to happen.

This. Many of these young kids have no desire whatsoever to attend college and wouldn't step foot on campus if they didn't have to.

I still expect State to be very good, but they sure aren't at the moment.

I've only watched parts of a couple of their games.

Sometimes Smith looks like Phil Ford, sometimes he looks like a frosh feeling his way who still needs to turn the corner.

Maverick Rowan is still out. I don't know what his story is, but they need him.

Abu is good but for a guy who tested the waters last year and presumably plans to go pro this year, he needs to be better than what I saw.

Kapita has only played 3 games. Yesterday was the first time I've seen him. Not what I expected. Too prone to freshman mistakes but very good potential once he learns the college game. Some sweet offensive chops and good quickness around the basket.

Dorn is terrific. Kid has a 72.7 eFG% and 136.9 Ortg and handles the ball pretty well. If I knew nothing about any of the players, I'd probably pick Dorn as their best player.

Henderson is good, but erratic. That's why they need Rowan back. With Dorn, Henderson and Rowan, they are pretty solid on the wings. I also think Henderson will benefit when they can go away from a 4-guard set.

Obviously they need Yurtseven. But who knows if he will be ready to play out of the late gate. If he's good and as Kapita improves, they could end up with a solid front line. As mentioned, I think that will lighten the pressure on Henderson to good effect and make for a better team in several ways.

Lots of talent on that team. Smith is the real deal. But without a strong coach to reign in all thise egos this is gonna be a disaster as i've predicted numerous times. I've said it before and i am again...they wont make the tourney

Yesterday only 6 guys played double-digit minutes. Three of them were freshmen (Smith, Kapita and Smith's backup Markell Johnson). Henderson played the most (39m) followed by Smith (38m) and both had off games, especially Henderson.

Henderson is good, so that presumably won't happen often. But it highlights the weakness of a short bench. If Maverick Rowan were healthy, it wouldn't matter if either Henderson or Dorn had an off game, because they'd have backup. But he isn't.

They are also playing a 4-guard lineup a lot. If Yurtseven lives up to his billing and Rowan comes back and Kapita improves, the team starts looking a lot better.

I'm not convinced by these criticisms of Gott. When he took over for Lowe, he did well with a talented but underperforming team. Something odd is going on because he struggles to hold onto players. But he seems to do well when he has them.

Is it my imagination or do Gott and Larranaga do unusually well with transfers and such?

Gott-fired won only 50% of the games he coached in the weak SEC, despite having pretty good talent. This State team has a lot of talent, but like many others, I think Gott will find a way to screw it up. And I look for Smith and Yurtseven to run away as fast as they can in 9 months.

Keep in mind that they really dont' have to go to class after January and still be able to play out the season. Dennis Smith will not attend a class after January. I would love for Roy to get a OAD player in certain years to fill the gaps. Next year (2017) is one of thsoe years that the Heels need to bring in a Knox OAD type to play the 4 on defense. IMO, the Heels are set after 2017. They will be at least a Sweet 16 team going forward. Black and White are studs and the North and South Carolina pipeline is bright.

To be fair, nobody expects them to stay. You can hardly hold that against Gott if he got them on board knowing they were OAD.

Now if they are as good as advertised and Gott gets them to stay another year, then we'll give him a K Award.
