I'm afraid this is what we can expect going forward from low level teams, draggg us into Deep Water with these close games, and now it becomes ANYBODY's game! Hell, even Lenoir Community College could score a few points in a close game.

I like grinding out a win in a game that the last 7 minutes and then OT nothing seems to go your way but you stick with it and pull out a ugly win in a game that looked like neither team wanted to win. Ugly win but it was a win on the road i will take it.

Heels should have won Saturday and was probably should have lost this game. I'll take the 1-1 record. This win helps the NCAA resume.

Sooo ... we went to OT with a team having 247Sports Recruiting rankings of 106, 79, 72 and 74 in 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013, respectively. Either this UNC team is underachieving or is being under-coached, or maybe a combination of both, which I favor. I continue to believe that we have experienced players who do not have NBA talent (no OADs on this team or in recent teams), and I think that Roy, despite being a very nice guy, is not the right coach at this time with this level of talent. With this level of talent, you have to go with the Pitino model, and emphasize defense, defense and defense. And when they get the defense down, then focus on scoring. Roy continues to coach like he has NBA talent, but he hasn't such talent for many years. A fast-paced offense with slightly above par offense and mediocre defense does not and will never work with the 3-4* real-talent that we have. Just an opinion, and apologies in advance to those that are offended.

Go Heels !

Clemson was also jacked-up about the Bama game.

They had only 2 losses coming into the game. We had 3. No slouch.

Same HOF coach that took the same level talent to the last game last year and lost at the last second. They beat a top 20 RPI team on the road getting no calls and you whine?? Just another dishwasher that's a wannabee coach .

Sooo... who do you replace him with? The worst thing any team can do at any level is fire a coach without having someone just as good or better waiting in the wings. Can you tell me who that would be or are you suggesting we just take a gamble on a coach and hope it works out?

Recruiting rankings of 106, 79, 72, and 74? Now you know a team can not be competitive with lower ranked recruits, you know lower ranked recruits can't play. You should know, darn sure been screamed on these boards by folks upset at our recruits coming in next year...

Right now ( last few games post Ky) we have regressed a bit, way to sloppy with the ball, just can not have your starting PG have 11 TOs in just the last 2 games. WE have had a total of 38 TOs in the last 2 games coming against GT^ and Clemson? And honestly, most of them are just being sloppy with the ball, that has got to get cleaned up quick.

The other real area of concern as of late is we are giving way to many clean look jumpers, teams are drawing our guards to help to deep to recover, looks like Joel is losing his man a lot more than earlier season, has been more a issue since he sprained his ankle. Kenny is getting baited in to help to deep and no one is checking the passing lane back out to the spot up, fortunately the last couple teams were not great outside shooting teams. Because we do help so deep and are coached to do that, we do grant those shots more than some teams do. But yeah, really since Ky we have been a bit off.

Funny thing about us, we over the years and not just this season, we go thru strings of games where we look near unbeatable because we execute so well and play with intensity. But then out of the blue we wil some how slide off the edge and play a string of games that make you question if we are really a NCAAT contender and then all the sudden we wil right the ship again and start the cycle over with more solid play. WE should be building back up to the good side of that cycle now, either the next game or the one after could be back to our A game for a string.

Clemson wants us so bad at their place because they know they have no chance at ours, it is for them the only chance they have to beat UNC is every other years when they get a home game against us, guess they will have to wait a couple more years now.

Intensity seems to be lacking. Still only have one "step on your throat" player on the team and he had to play 41 minutes and score 31 pts to keep us in the game. I think our rotation is TOO big. Bad chemistry on the floor a lot of times. When we get an offensive rebound, we dont have to jack it back up. Pull it out and setup the offense. Halfcourt offense is a still our problem. Front court disappears all too often. Meeks is still too soft. People talk about the strength and conditioning program all the time...blah, blah, blah. Why is it that you see the other kids on the other teams and they look like they just came from the crossfit games. They are jacked and pumped. We look fat and slow.

With that being said, I love my Heels and I pull for them regardless. My biggest issue is that at time we look like we dont care. Meeks, does the quick spin move and gets 2 points and he just smiles as he runs back up the court like...I am doing my part....and we are down 6 points.

I agree when you say "I continue to believe that we have experienced players who do not have NBA talent (no OADs on this team or in recent teams)," Now saying we do not have NBA talent is over the top but I would agree we do not have NBA star level talent but we do have mid level NBA type of guys. In other words we do not have duke or Ky level talent nor have we for a while now.

I think where we are struggling is that it has been so long since we had a inside back to the basket intimidator inside the paint, I would suggest Henson was our last. Tony has a real chance to develop in to that but he is not that right now, Brice was more a face the basket guy that got a lot of weak side blocks. But that guy that your guards can funnel their assignment inside and our big man just intimidates any shot attempt inside the paint, we have missed that. It is also that big man intimidator that gets that inside position and easy pass in for the easy flush. Again, with more strength and conditioning Tony may become that one day. Those guys have been going to duke, ky, arizona, kansas lately.

But you mix in some conclusions that don't make sense to me, Roy coaches like he has NBA all Stars? That reads like fiction stated just to mold a point that you don't want Roy as our coach. We did play in the NCAAT game last season without, as you say, NBA star level talent. You are suggesting that Roy does not worry about defense? While there are a few things I would prefer he do on defense more, like play more zone or go to more full court trapping, Roy puts in more time with his players coaching defense than he does offensive attacking, some may suggest to a fault of not always having us ready to score as much as we maybe could.

What Roy has been doing seems to be working just fine for the season, maybe in a game here or there things will not look as smooth but over all I think we do really well with the talent we have. Our talent develops and the individual players become much better on average. Hicks really could not play when he got to us, now even if his stats are not great opposing coaches still make it a focus point to defend him. Brice the freshman was not nearly the player he was last season, look at meeks this season as compared to the last couple. Kid just gave us back to back games of 14 & 16 rebounds, even Joel berry didn't start as a frosh and now he is our absolute most valuable player. Player after player has developed under Roy, no matter what he was ranked.

To do what Roy has had his teams do, especially with all the extra baggage that has been heaped on us over the last 6yrs, really is remarkable and a feat I am not sure any other coach would be up to task for. Duke, Ky, kansas, Arizona would not be winning nearly as much if they had the level of talent we have and if Roy had the level of talent those programs have been able to get, I strongly believe he would have out performed any of those other programs.

I disagree that our half court offense is lacking. If anything, I think it is excelling greatly and what has won us most of our games. Our transition offense seems basically non-existent to what seems to be poor court vision and passing. = /

INTENSITY, that is the key word !!!

Really, it is a fine line with us, we are not a team that has the ability to just out talent top 50 programs, so we have to out work them. That begins with intensity and focus and truth is that is not always there at the levels we need it to be, sickness can rob you of that, injury can, and fatigue does as well. Truth is some days it just isn't there and some days it is there in spades.

Don't ever say these kids don't care, they care much more than any message board poster ever could, they care more than any fan ever could. Some times you take a blow and get staggered a bit, that doesn't mean you don't care to hit the other guy back, you care, you just have to regroup so that you can. Unless you have ever walked a mile in these kids shoes, don't comment on them not caring and if you have ever walked in their shoes you would not comment on them not caring...

How many times have we said that Hicks needs to stay out of foul trouble? He picks up too many stupid fouls. Roy left him in for a few minutes last night and for 2-3 minutes after that Hicks appeared that he was more careful about fouling. Hicks is his own worst ememy and is looking at not even getting drafted unless he gets his act together. Roy will not put Hicks on the bench to start the game, but placing him on the bench after he receives his first foul could help. The Heels need better production out of Hicks to reach the Final Four.

Acc is brutal. I'll say right now the reg season champ will have at least 3 conf losses.

I'd take the over on that. A week ago I would've agreed, thinking both us & the dark side would be hard pressed to lose 4 conference games. Given the events of the past week it seems we are both closer to the pack (no pun intended) than I thought.

Exactly what I would do honestly, if Hicks picks up a foul in the first 10mins, I would sit him for the rest of the half, give him 4 to play with in the second half. Another reason I like a zone, we could protect him against a lot of those fouls where he gets switched off on to wings that take him.

Roy can never be blamed from kids missing open shots, free throws, missed layups, completely careless and thoughtless passes during a game. I've never been to a practice but i can well be sure that's not what he teaches. We were seconds away from beating Kentucky, but a missed free throw derailed that, we were on the come back again Indiana, down four needing a stop, when Kennedy Meeks allowed a freshman center to back him all the way to the basket from damn near the 3 pt line and then it's the Georgia Tech game....turnover, after turnover...missed shot after missed shot...open shot which were created by the offensive scheme put in place by our HOF coach. Not to mention the hose job that was dealt to Carolina during the championship game.

Either obvious troll or new to basketball fan! Either way I'm not feeding him.

I'm quite proud of our guys for gutting out that win against a good team at home who is fired up to play you. I attribute GT to them playing really well and most of our team being too sick to match their effort. Meeks seems to have tired legs which makes sense since he usually is getting more limited minutes by this point in the season due to nagging injuries. He may well be healthy, but he is not used to this much burn. He will get his second wind (provided he really is healthy) and will start to hit some of those 2 ft shots he keeps missing. Berry will get back to full speed and JJ will rediscover his stroke. Hicks fouling issues are more troubling to me. He seems to get hesitant as soon as he gets one so I agree with sitting him for a half once he gets that first one.

I expect to see the guys motivated and playing closer to their potential against Moo and I expect the trend to be going in the right direction going forward.

Any ACC road win is a great win!

gary I suppose some of these "newer" fans to UNC sports just don't have a grasp, the team we won against last night beat up on us all game, same for GaTech, both are good teams and will have their share of conference wins. All one has to do is review scores from the past week-end...kinda obvious.
Like the guard for Clemson that made the dagger 3 pt shot late, that kid has some serious D1 ability. LCC indeed.

Ga tech was a really bad loss and i suspect may cause us the reg season title. But clemson is a great win. Several title contenders will lose down there this season. Just watch.

I have been on this board for over 15 years. I cant even tell you when I got on here first but it has been a LONG time. When Yahoo took over it goofed up my registration for the pay site so I just let it go and only use the free now. I am not Trolling. I am merely posting my opinion. I stand by my statements. We dont have a good big man. Bradley might be that guy someday, but the reverse layup king is not the answer for us. It IS who we have so we roll with it. Hicks and Meeks are the worst front court in the ACC. If it wasnt for the Roy Williams "feed the post" fire hose in the mouth when your thirsty, forcing the ball down low to guy that have not established position, then these guys would never get the ball. At 500 lbs Meeks should get a crap ton of rebounds and sometimes he does. But when he gets his rebounds, unless there is no one within 6 feet he should pass it back out. The up and under, reverse layup prayer he puts up after a rebound is pathetic. I wish someone had a stat on how many times he has been blocked. I hope it gets better but I guess we will just have to pay that justin or joel hit 7 3's every game so we can be competitive in the rest of the ACC games.
