but misses team's first nine games.

I say, good! I want Moo to be at their absolute best (which is a relative thing, lol) when we crush them. My two favorite teams are Carolina and whoever's playing Moo U. Plus, I'd hate to see an 18-year-old kid denied the opportunity to play college basketball in the U.S. What a cool experience for a non-American.

He's supposed to be very good. This from a ESPN article.

"Yurtseven, who compares his game to Tim Duncan, made headlines in May after finishing with 91 points, 28 rebounds and 5 assists in a Turkey under-18 game."

Quite a game.

He is not going to be playing against under 18yr old Turkish players when he suits up for ACC play.

Wow....really, guys?

By y'alls definition of amateur vs. professional, ALL D1 college athletes are professionals. They all get paid stipends. Quit buying into the phony amateurism idealistic crap. Y'all are smarter than that.

moooooooooooooo-moooooooooooo

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this mornin', THN?

I agree that we've diluted the term student athlete by giving a free ride to athletes, most of whom wouldn't have qualified academically. But I have no desire to abandon the concept entirely. He'll, I think the tail's already waggin' the dog.

As for Yurtseven, I have no problem with him playing. The European Club system is their equivalent to college.

NCAA is so arbitrary. What is the difference in this kid and Enes Kanter who was ruled ineligible for the whole season.

Agreed on this. They're very arbitrary.

Maybe ;) Working 12 hour-days will do that to a man. But seriously...

I agree that we can't abandon the concept entirely because if you do, there's no possible way to keep the playing field level. Schools like Wake Forest will simply have to go away because they won't be able to keep up. Therefore, I see it as a necessary evil.....but one that is built upon a false premise.

Amateurism is a Victorian-era England bastardization of the values/beliefs of ancient Greek athletics. Scholars at the time (mid to late 1800s England) incorrectly thought that Ancient Olympians competed solely for pride and honor, refusing to take money or prizes. They then married this concept to the rise of sport that was occurring in England at the time with rugby, soccer, and track. All of this amateurism was a myth. Plenty of archaeological evidence has surfaced since the 1800s that shows clearly that ancient Greek athletics received cash prizes, were sponsored by rich donors (exactly like boosters sponsoring athletics in today's college sports), etc.

Ask Jim Thorpe, he who was stupidly stripped of medals by the IOC, if amateurism is a good thing.

Okay, I'm off my rant.

State also quietly added 2 top-60 guys to back up Smith and to flesh out an already decent front line.

If Smith, Freeman and Henderson are really healthy, they could very well bust into the top tier of the ACC and should be a lock for the NCAAT.

State has talent. If they don't make and win a game in the NCAAT, it should be seen as a failed season.

That being said, we won't be surprised if they don't even make the NIT ;)

91 points and 28 rebounds? Who was he playing, midgets?

Well it appears he was the only one using his hands, the rest were trying to kick the ball in to the basket, one dude tried to head butt it in, and one decided to take his cleats off but kept sliding around in his socks...

I was thinking the 91/28/5 must be a misprint. I don't care if he was 2 feet taller than everybody else on the court.

As for NVSU, there's a ton of talent on that team. If they don't finish in the top 4 of the ACC, Gotfired can't coach a lick.

Heres my prediction

State is fast out of th gate and breaks top 10 after 9 games

Yogurtsemen gets back and state loses two in a row

Smith freezes semen out in games since its his team anyway

Dissension takes over, semen is seen in gottfrieds face

State falls apart and stumbles into the tourney as a 9 seed and is destroyed by coastal carolina

Gottfried is fired as state fans voice their support of semen

Smith goes pro of course and admits he didnt want to play with semen
