great time of year to talk about this...i have experimented with many over the years.

was wondering if the ootb crowd is on a specific one or has a goal to try one.

watched a doc last night on the plant based diet...i want to try it, but giving up certain fish and chicken would be hard for me/us.

Best one for me is just cutting out all carbs.

None of us other OOTBers (@heelmanwilm excluded) eat like hippies like you do.

Diets are overrated as hell. Yeah, I poast a lot about what most people would consider junk food, but my entire diet isn't centered on that stuff. As long as you act like you have some sense, you're fine. There's no need to cut all of this or stop eating all of that, or whatever. I eat a lot fruits, vegetables, and all the good stuff with a little J-Mikes mixed in there, and if I want a burger from somewhere or a snack from QT every once in a while, I'll go for it. A burger from Wendy's isn't going to kill you. It's okay.

I think diets themselves are overrated. Eating right isn't. Last year I decided to try and get my six pack (or as close as I could get at 40) back before going to the beach in the summer. Just started grilling every Sunday for the week and eating that along with relatively healthy options with it. I still would kind of eat what I wanted on the weekend and now and then throughout the week. Just did that along with some ab work and pushups throughout the week and it wasn't that tough. I didn't have to kill myself or not enjoy eating. Didn't quit drinking either. It is just basically not being stupid with what you eat.

As much as i poke fun at my wife for our healthy eating (and as much abuse as we take from our friends) i have to admit its the best thing ever happened to my health. If it werent for her i would be in all kinds of trouble health wise.

That philosophy works at your age. It won't after 40. Believe me. I work out pretty regularly and used to eat however I wanted. And because I worked out, I would t gain weight. But after 40, that changes. I've been working out the same but I have gained probably 25 lbs over the past 18 months. I will be going on a diet after the first of the year to drop the weight. Once I lose 20 lbs or so, I'll quit the diet plan but will have to make dramatic changes to how I eat for the rest of my life.

And it will come out of nowhere cool. It's like a switch that flips at the age of 40. Felt like it happened overnight to me. That Wendy's burger that did no harm when you were 28 will add a half inch to your waist at 41.
