Dook billed UNC 27k for spray paint damage

Look at @laurakeeley 's Twitter timeline for pictures of the damaged. Obviously it shouldn't have happened but once again, leave it Duke to make themselves look like absolute d-bag pr*cks, even in situations where they should be the one getting sympathy.

Duke is just puke. 'Nuff said.

My assumption at the time was that the damage happened to the floor of the locker room while the players were still spray-painting the Victory Bell. It looks like that did in fact happen, and the bulk of the repair cost was for the replacement of the carpet. My reaction to that is meh.

Then there was the spray-painting of "UNC" on the walls and inside a locker. That's inexcusable and embarrassing.

I'm not bothered by the dookies as much as I am by Laura Keeley. She is a dook homer to the nth degree a lacks any hint of professional objectivity. To the surprise of no one, she's a News & Observer employee. Man I despise that rag.

Oh trust me, I only dropped her name as a means to view the pictures. I don't follow her and don't read that POS newspaper. I agree with your assessment of her. Journalism is dead, dead, dead, dead. In this day and age, what moron would major in such a field?

Oh wait....

I feel your pain. My maternal grandfather, uncle, and mother were all journalists. It doesn't look anything like it did during their eras, that's for sure.

I was already aware of this. Thus why I added the caveat "in this day and age" so as not to offend

Aren't they tearing that garbage pit down. If so, it is prick move to bill UNC for damage for a building that was going to be torn down. Fedrora should have not let it happen, but man anything with the N&O gets overblown. Their reporters are just biased hacks.

The damage was to carpet tiles. No one seems to notice that. So, if it is carpet tiles, just replace the tile. That is the point of laying carpet tiles down instead of a carpet. It is cheaper and easier to replace damaged tiles than repairing a whole carpet. The incident shouldn't have happened; however, there is nothing in that itemized list that calls for 27K. I thought $600+ was extremely high for something that could easily be repaired with a power washing.

Yes, $27,000 seems steep. Yes, duke comes off as whiney bitches. Yes, it's a little embarrassing that we were so hyped after winning the game against duke that we got a little crazy (remember when the duke game was a forgone conclusion? - it should still be).

But the bottom line is that Fedora should have controlled the situation better. They shouldn't have even taken the bell in the lockerroom. If Fedora controls the situation, all the above scenarios never play out.

We've made note of it in your "I hate Larry Fedora" file, thanks.

Fedora wasn't even in the locker room when it happened, by the way. He was doing the post-game press conference. The assistant coaches were there, though.

Here I go...trashing the program again.

I don't hate Fedora. I mean, I prefer my coaches to be humble, deflect attention and to walk the walk more than talk the talk. But I definitely don't hate the guy. But you can file that in the "things I would change about Larry Fedora" file.

Ok, so he wasn't in the locker room. His assistants were. Would Dean Smith's assistants let that happen? Would Nick Saban's assistants let that happen? No. You know why? Because they'd know there would be hell to pay when the head coach found out.

Run a tighter ship and things like this and the hazing incident don't happen.

Couple of things we should all keep in mind:

1) The $27K was likely more money that dook has spent on ANYTHING in that stadium since it was built. Including the total amount they have spent buying refreshments. Since it was built!
2) I believe this was more likely a ploy by Cut to get people to pay attention to dook football. Hell, the man is WINNING and no one gives three shiites! Most of those dorks don't know a football from a basketball from their own balls!
3) It's DOOK. ANYTHING we do to spruce up that place should be seen as a capital improvement. They should have paid US!

What a specious argument. Smith and Saban have both had players and assistants arrested for far worse including DUI, assault, etc. Those incidents weren't a reflection of the coaches or the discipline within their respective programs.

that gif is freakin ridiculous...where do people create or find these?...i can't even photoshop correctly.

Yes but that wasn't under or around the watchful eye of the coach. I could be wrong but I don't remember a team under Smith or a Bama team trashing anyone's locker room or even getting that out of hand when around supervision. All programs have kids who mess up when unsupervised. But when you feel like that's ok to do with your coaches around, well just damn. That says a lot and none of it is good.

I don't disagree, 92, but the assistant coaches were in the room and allowed it to happen. That's where the blame lies IMO, not with the guy who wasn't even there. We can agree to disagree I guess. The players were punished for their actions -- they lost meal money the following week and did a neighborhood cleanup as community service. My question is whether the assistant coaches and grad assistants were punished for allowing it to happen.

The price of an a$$ beating I guess..lol

If I was UNC I would definitely say screw you, and have my own people survey the damage.. I have a feeling Dook is like that person who has a 94 Honda you accidentally tapped at a stop light, you give them your insurance info, then they send you a quote that includes a brand new transmission (which they needed anyways)

RH, I've heard a report that Fedora and Bubba paid for this out of their own pockets. If true, they are to be commended and, also, I would suspect will never let this happen again.

I am not sure why this is news 3 months later. What a joke by the local media hacks. If UNC had overbilled Duke, the hacks would have been questioning it for years Journalism is dead.

This price seems outrageous. Our players shouldnt have done this but didn't Duke fans spray paint parts of our campus and I know state fans did during bball season. Did UNC go public and make a big deal out of it??? And did we ask the respected schools to foot the bill??

I don't give a flying f-word about dook's pathetic facilities. what concerns me as a carolina fan is that the lack of discipline our players showed after the dook win carried through all week and reared its ugly head the following saturday in one of the worst performances i've ever seen by a carolina football team.
