I thought the Davis hire was going to be mediocre based on Hubert’s perceived personality or lack thereof, which would make it difficult for him to relate to these HS recruits.

I was obviously wrong.

This dude seems to have top shelf HS talent immediately interested in coming to Carolina and the addition of Manek and Garcia has taken this team from a top 4 ACC contender straight to a legit Final Four type squad, imo. I mean in the last couple months we have seen this team go from losing Brooks and Kessler, thinking the program might be unraveling a bit, to a massive upgrade in both regards in Manek and Garcia.

Color me impressed.

Not gonna lie now, I preferred King for the gig, by a tiny degree preferred Wes as my second choice. Only because I felt Hubert really needed to head coach some other program before he came back to UNC as Roy did. But Hubert has exceeded any expectations I could have had for him. At this point, only question I have for him is how he manages in a game and that may be the smallest thing I really needed because the important part is having the Jimmys & Joes and having a scheme that differed from Roy on the half court court attack and I see that crystal clear. If Hubert shows me on the game management aspect, I am ready to anoint him as our 3 great coach along with Dean and Roy. I will be absolutely shocked if Hubert does not fill in every box I could wish for on the game management part.

The only questionable move he has made so far in my mind was bringing in McKoy and I expect to be shown wrong on that front! So yeah, I am happy to be 95% in Hubert's corner today and if I see Leaky coming off the bench next season then I will be 150% behind Hubert! You know I am gonna be 100% behind him publicly any way! I just no longer see him as a fill in for a few years until we get our next great head coach, I now believe our next great head coach is Hubert Davis. Hubert is our current day version of a young Phil Ford and you can not understand how high that praise is from me, Phil is Mr Tar Heel, Hubert is the 2021 version of Phil as a coach.

Proof will be winning games however he has made the right moves to this point. A good blend of maintaining family while applying his own twist. This is totally different from Doherty hire. Heels will be fine and maybe better than fine.

Oh yes, man, what a fantastic comment, this is NOTHING at all like the Doh hire from the aspect of how Hubert has taken this thing on. Matt came in, not just with his own coaches that did not have UNC ties but where he really screwed the pooch was firing some really highly loved and respected folks that the majority of fans had no idea who they were but the were MUCH LOVED by the players both then and former. Matt felt he had to remove Dean from the program and re-brand it as his own, dumb dumb dumb! He never knew how much Dean and a guy Dean loved like a son, helped Matt, very few fans really know the whole story, I kinda do and do not like to recall it and never will on these boards, that is a promise I made and one I will damn sure keep. There are 2 guys that post here that know what that means, they know I am a man of my word and once I give it I will not break it. I never even talked to my buddy Zeke about that and a few (very few) know what that means...

Roy put that staff together for a reason, it will bear fruit. I enjoyed reading of Hubert and the entire staff showing up at a recruits place not too long ago.
