EJ Montgomery to UNC ...

Well, this thread makes my prediction look good. In the thread... “what will we talk about after Zion” I predicted we would debate whether EJ Montgomery should get an offer.

Duke has a loaded recruiting class. Every team in the country will have to deal with it. I'll take Roy and the players we will have next year over everyone else.
Duke was loaded last year and they are loaded this year. They will be loaded next year. I'll get worried when they win a title. No one remembers your team unless you win a title.

at this point.I would push to sign EJ ---if Carey is considering dook- 2019 and Bacot is considering dook..well, there is a pattern, a trend--cannot deny it may happen again

EJ is a heavy lean for Syracuse right now.
Nothing to lose by pursuing him though. As we've seen lately "heavy lean" doesn't necessarily lean much. I feel great about Sterling starting if he can get in better shape but we could still use another post player no?

Th
Do you mind explaining this? Why would you prefer to not have EJ Montgomery?
The Heels problem is in the post. Montgomery is a power forward and the Heels already have Luke and Brooks. Need to get 20-25 minutes a game from a force in the post. Manley can be that force.

Manley, Brooks, and Hoffman. Those three might not have sounded so great as freshman starting big men, but as Sophmore big men with our very recent history of developing big men I think Roy has a formula that works well.

Manley is starting to make leaps in his game now, and with one more year with Maye, Brooks or Hoffman should be ready to contribute big time in the Junior seasons.

Would love to grab one of these studs on recruiting trail, but Roy is winning a lot of games taking 2nd tier big men and developing them over 4 years.

I keep on saying it, but if Toney Bradley would not have shocked everyone and leaving after one year, we are talking about another deep run this year.

Guess what I am trying to say is we don't have a problem down low, we had one, but unless we can move up a high school player up to our squad this season then we are fine for 3 years with our current big men.

If we still had Tony, UNC would be the best team in the country.

Our perimeter game Is better than Duke's all we are missing is a solid big.

You couldn't double Luke.

Yeah, playing the “what if” game will drive you crazy. What if the Jet didn’t get mugged? What if Butter didn’t get mugged? See what I mean?

Also, what if Kyrie Irving would not hurt his toe that year?

I just watched a couple of Montgomery clips.

He looks good. Not really OAD, though. Might get there, but looked more like a 2-3 year guy to me. He'd help us next season but might not start unless our bigs fail to improve very much.

More a stretch 4 than a 5. But might be able to play in the post some. Not a lot of muscle, but good movement and some shot-blocking chops.

Reminds me a lot of Henson.

247 reports him "warm" toward S.Carolina and Duke, but he doesn't have an offer from Duke. And where would he fit on that roster? A few other decent offers but not many from the top teams.

I wonder what the problem with him is. Is he under investigation and people are just keeping their distance?

Montgomery, a standout at Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler, and his parents told 247Sports that they are down to Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, USC, Georgia, Clemson and UCLA.

E.J. Montgomery Sr. said that all 11 schools on their list have offered a scholarship.

Sounds Like Roy's in pursuit.

Doesn't make our odds sound too high though. Top 11...

Curious, this is not yet over...
Vanderbilt and Wake Forest watched E.J. Montgomery practice on Wednesday. Then on Thursday, Montgomery scored 39 points and reeled in 15 rebounds in front of a pair of assistants. “North Carolina and South Carolina were there tonight,” Montgomery Sr. said. “Hubert Davis was here tonight at the game. Roy Williams is supposed to come in on Saturday."

If true, 247 is way off. They don't have us, Duke or UK with offers.
