ESPN on Sam Howell

Other than a few UNC fans, I think everyone already knew this. It does suck that the Heisman isn't solely based on performance of the player though. I'm holding out hope that he gets an invite to NY, but even if we win out I don't think it happens.

sam's early turnovers really hurt his chances, along with the team's record but anyone who watched all sam's games this year know he's a warrior and a stud. he's very deserving of any accolades he's given.

As a starting QB, Sam Howell has a 19-14 record.

That's hard to believe. I don't know how in the world Mack Brown got him to come to UNC, but he definitely worked some Hogwarts magic!

And, any future quarterback, with a lot of potential (whatever that is, these days), who sees stats like that, has to wonder: "Do I really wanna play THERE? They lose way too much."

That is the problem with UNC football- it has a tradition of losing too much. Players don't have the same NEED to win as a player will have at a place like Alabama. It's like an addiction, there! They NEED IT! UNC Football doesn't feel the NEED to win!

outside of about 15 teams everybody loses too much. if we hadn't gone thru a meltdown this season unc's overall record with sam would probably be as good as anyone outside the top 10-15 (not counting nonP5 teams - which have other drawbacks). and chapel hill is a pretty cool place to spend 3-5 years. so i understand sam flipping from fsu to unc - it's a little harder to understand guys choosing us over bama, georgia, clemson, ohio st.

NIL is going to help us for the future. Players rarely go to a school because they have a personal connection. It's all about winning and building a brand. Outside of about 10 teams, they aren't going to be able to win. That means building a brand and making some money will be a priority. UNC is a good place to build a brand and make money despite the fact we aren't a national power.

There’s truth to that but NIL still makes me afraid for college sports.
