ESPN ranks ACC RBs

Every single team we play this year is going to really struggle to stop Hood and Mitch at the same time. I very seriously doubt many teams can slow him down with 7 or less in the box, but Mitch's accuracy will be absolutely lethal if they start trying to load it up. As good as Hood has been, he's done it in an offense that was never as balanced as it should have been, and he was lining up next to another inside power runner who took away a lot of carries in his part of the field. Once you throw in the returning experience on the o-line I think it starts sounding pretty reasonable to have him on the Heisman watch lists. This could be one of the best, if not the best offenses in the entire country. I can't wait for them to shock the dawgs.

October 1 in Tallahassee should be a show case for running backs....

The two top ranked ACC backs featured as opponents....and the two back sets will be loaded on each side.

I think, regardless of the rush talent available, ultimately, it will be the QB play that will decide this game.

I think which D can best contain the foe's top playmakers will be key.

Sure...and the offensive line that can run block and protect will always have an edge...the old battle of the O line against the defensive front 7.

My thoughts:

QB...UNC

.I give the upper hand to UNC. FSU's QB will probably be r-freshman Francois who will play his first games this year. Former starter Maguire had a horrific ankle injury (broken bones, torn ligaments) and as of two weeks ago, still could not put all of his weight on his foot. He had surgery in January and Fisher says he will be ready by late August...but he has lost his place, I think, while Francois has been practicing and working on his passing.

Trubisky looked good in his 9 games played last year, 40-47, 6 TD's with 0 INT's And he continued that showing in the spring. FSU's Francois is still untested in game situations. Right now, Trubisky looks to have the edge.

Defense....toss up. Two of maybe the best defenses in the league.

FSU will return most of their front line and 8 starters plus key back ups from a team that ranked 9th nationally on Points Allowed. Some new faces in the back. The DB's do need to show improvement on last year's blown coverages and missed signals.

UNC had a very good defense last year. Had problems stopping the run (# 109 nationally on Rush Defense). A bend but don't break type D.

The Heels defense returns a great Nazair Jones and two very good DE's and should be improved on the front line.

I call this match up a pick em.

One thing we will know before October 1...how FSU will play against good quarterbacks.

Before playing UNC , the Noles will have played against Chad Kelley (Preseason ALL SEC first team in Lindy's, Phil Steele, Athlon) and rated by NFL.com as the nation's strongest arm and #5 most accurate passer. One of the ten Manning Award finalists last year.

Also Louisville's Jackson. Lamar Jackson had his break out true freshman game in the bowl against Texas A&M. He showed improvement in the spring game against the #2's...8 TD's, 0 INT's...24 of 29 for 519 yards.

Poor performances against these teams and the odds for the UNC-FSU game start changing.
