So when Sports Center came on at the top of the hour after the Irish had just beaten the Blue Devils in overtime the lead story of course was that game which I can live with but then ESPN spent 10 minutes talking about all of the Broncos leaving the Super Bowl team for bigger money. Then NBA news about LeBron against Coby for the last time then commercials then Coach K's post game presser then several other tournament game highlights like Tennessee upsetting Vanderbilt (please who really cares) and then 25 minutes into the program they showed maybe 30 seconds of the UNC/Pittsburgh with no players or coaches interviews then on to golf. That's ESPN at its finest and it is embarrashing...

Infiltrated with Dookies and/or other Anti-UNC types (imo). Bilas (and Jay-Motorcycle-Mouth-Williams) leads the way if I really tune into what he has to say (again, imo)...

I don't really buy into the conspiracy but there isn't a ton of UNC love this year. Even when we beat Duke it was sort of a footnote, where the first game was a highlight for SC. That's ok though. Just keep winning. Beating Pitt isn't that sexy. Beating Duke is, which is what ND did. That is part of it. There isn't any anti-UNC bias though. Right now Duke moves the needle both ways. A lot of that is because of how hated they are.

The next game is going to be very difficult. ND causes us some matchup problems. Talk about not looking past an opponent...

Our guys want ND and so do I. Auguste has given us way more trouble than he should. If we can get the kind of effort and determination from our Bigs we got against Pitt we should show em what's up.

I would consider all of that to be bigger news than our win. Beating the hell out of a team that you were suppose to beat is not that exciting. Had we lost or if it went into overtime I'm guessing it would have been one of the fist things they showed.

I have steadily lost more and more respect and interest in ESPN. They have turned into a woman's fashion show with females( granted they are attractive) on virtually every show. Most of these women are clueless and are there for the "diversity" and also to emote and discuss "feelings"

The actual sports aspect is almost secondary and their anti Carolina bias stems in great part to the "scandal" that we have been dealing with for 5 years

They also have a bevy of in house Lance Thomas Cover Up College types.... from Bilas to Mush Mouth Williams and of course dookie V. who will never say a bad word about their leader and the Leader of ALL men...... Vader

Assuming we can get to some form of resolution on this NCAA, The Carolina brand will be restored. It will take time and ESPN is along for the ride in deriding us..all the while enjoying the HIGHEST ratings for any of their college bball games when WE play.

I especially tire of the meme that there are no teams as good as the top teams last season.
HORSESH**.

Our somewhat dysfunctional group should have beaten the eventual champions twice, and was a hair from the Final 4 themselves, so you can't tell me this year's much-improved bunch (with an actual functional lineup and an All-American level Brice Johnson) wouldn't beat any of last season's Final 4.

In other words: GMAFB, Bilas.

acronym gary? Just go ahead, shout it out, be like Roy, tell 'em what you think!

Listened some last night, I tried to give it a chance but Bore-us Burke has to go...talk about an ability to put one to sleep!

I agree Gary. We also had the lead against Whisky with about 6 minutes left.

Yeah and for me the classic example is Doris Burke, how in the heck is she paid to call games? She tries so hard to be cool, to pull out lines that in her mind shows he can talk but those lines just come out as phoney. AND HOW MANY MORE DAMN TIMES IS SHE GOING TO FEEL THE NEED TO REMIND US THAT NATE CHANGED HIS JUMP SHOOTING HAND??? Honestly Doris, message was received the first 100 times you mentioned it, get some new material. She is like finger nails on a chalk board to me, please make the bad noise stop!

Actually Doris Burke goes as Boris Dork whenever she is on the TV in our household. Wow is she a train wreck as an announcer. Unlistenable. Awkward. Painful.

Agreed Heelicious, so we always do like the "old " days, tv volume down & turn on the radio and listen to Jones and Eric...those guys do wander about some but they report the game.

I'm not defending anything... But I'm just letting you know the reasoning behind all this.

The NFL is the most important entity in sports media. More people care about NFL free agency than non-NCAA tournament college basketball.

The NBA's median audience is the youngest of any major sport in the USA. And 18-34 age demo is a key demo, so you're going to get a ton of NBA coverage to gain that audience.

Duke will almost always be the lead story in college basketball because they're the most polarizing and popular team. Typically, the most watched games of each college basketball season are games that Duke plays in. And to give people an understanding CBB's niche.... Duke/NC State was the most viewed game a couple days ago of that day and it didn't crack a million viewers. Typically a NBA on TNT game will get 1.5-2 million viewers for a regular season game.

I have steadily lost more and more respect and interest in ESPN. They have turned into a woman's fashion show with females( granted they are attractive) on virtually every show. Most of these women are clueless and are there for the "diversity" and also to emote and discuss "feelings"

The issue with the anti Carolina bias is the President of ESPN is a very proud UNC graduate.

I can't speak for who ESPN hires as talent.

But I don't think the lack of coverage is anti UNC bias. It's strictly a numbers game. You have to predict what the most number of people will consume and people consume Duke in CBB. Hell, aside from our own game threads, Duke threads get the most traffic.

Do people really think the producers sit in a room and think "how can we mess with UNC today?"

Duke will almost always be the lead story in college basketball because they're the most polarizing and popular team.

Horse crap! Now if you had said MOST HATED TEAM I might agree but "most popular" no way.

I don't buy that ESPN has a conspiracy against UNC, or really any other team/program. I do buy that they have favorite teams/players/coaches that they fawn over ad nauseum (LeBron, Peyton Manning, coach K, any SEC football team, all get slurped much more than they deserve). I also buy that they are willing to sell teams/players down the river at the drop of a dime in order to get a first report and/or hot take, without properly investigating the situation and getting their facts straight (UNC academics, Penn State fiasco, DeflateGate, even Duke Lacrosse to some extent).

Only time will tell if the viewers they generate from over covering the popular names will trump those they alienate by their horrendous "journalism". As of right now, it seems as though they are fairly popular but that tide may turn if they're ever presented with legitimate competition.

Agree with Jung's points. Once upon a lifetime I worked in sports reporting and I had the Tiger woods phenomenon explained to me: seems that research on golf viewing showed that a 'casual' viewer was X-times more likely to stop and watch golf when flicking through channels if/when they saw tiger on the screen.
Same might be said now for Puke and the LOGM (leader of girly men)
It's all about viewers, Internet clicks and subscriptions. Truth and real sport fall way back on the priority listing.

Maybe I am getting blind but I would have to say when I go out everyday I see lots of people wearing Carolina hats, shirts and sweat shirts and hardly ever any Duke attire. Most popular please put down the airplane glue...

Here's the scary part --- she's actually way better doing "color" than play-by-play.
