Expect Heels to be 12-0 in conference going into Duke game.

Looking at the Heels ACC schedule, it is not that challenging until they face Duke for the first time this season. Then the schedule gets brutal. In their last 6 games, they face Duke twice, face a tough Miami team at home, and go on the road against NC State and Virginia. I think the Heels have a 10% chance to run the table in conference play. Difficult, but not impossible.

One game at a time cannot be emphasized enough. NEVER get ahead of yourself.

We can get ahead of ourselves on a message board but yeah i have a hard time predicting 12-0! If in doubt, just ask UVA. Syracuse is probably better than FSU, as a bonus they also have a guy who can rack up 30, and we play them on the road. I'd be glad to win that one by 1.

Let's take a moment and think about this. VA lost to VA Tech last night. Anything can and will happen in the ACC and if you take for granted one game, down you will go.

This team is tough and has shown the ability to dig deep and win ball games late. I think they could be special but learn to enjoy the moment.

Are we on the team? Do we play the games? What good does "one game at a time" do for fans? I'll never understand this thinking. Yeah, if I'm a coach, that's what I'm preaching to my team, but we're fans. What's wrong with speculating? We have no impact on the game. We probably won't be 12-0 (it's possible, but I don't think so), but I don't see anything wrong with speculating.

Karma man karma . Been following the Heels for 40+ years.... The DES approach is THE approach for players AND fans. NEVER start the looking down the road too far, keep your eyes on what is DIRECTLY ahead of you.... not 10 miles in the distance. If you don't, you just might CRASH

ONE AT A TIME thank you

The Carrier Dome will be rocking this weekend for an 8pm start time. Considering it is Boeheim's first game back, it is definitely going to be a challenge. We will have to bring our A game to win!

Go Heels!!

But that takes away some of the fun of being sports fans. Being a fan is about entertainment, not a job. To each, his own, I guess.

I get where you and others are coming from and I have been guilty of this many many times in the past . The problem is you set yourself up for BIG disappointment as a fan by just fantasizing about what COULD, MIGHT, maybe will happen in a month or however long you look into the future.

Go ahead and enjoy that fantasy if you like.. it is yours and you are welcome to it. have fun and don't get burned by getting your hopes up too high.

I REALLY like this team a lot, it has a certain toughness that many others have lacked IMO. But we play AT Syracuse this weekend and the last time we were there we get our butts kicked. I will take a one point win against their zone and be very happy.

Every road game in the ACC is tough. We're good, but not good enough to take any games for granted.

Like many, I am tired of the poormouthing!

Many kept saying we would stumble at FSU for some reason. Their stud got his and they were big; SO WHAT!

Syracuse plays zone and they have a stud; SO WHAT. We can shoot; we are tough; we have several studs. No ACC road game is easy, but I don't believe in false humility and do not subscribe to the "fear the past" syndrome. Neither UNC nor Syracuse is what they were.

I don't see 12-0 (circumstances usually prevent clean sheets in the ACC), but I also don't see a team we can't beat on our schedule!

If you want to speculate and you feel that confident, be my guest.

All of us here will refer to the team, fan base, and school as a collective "we" or "us" without hesitation. So, for me, I am just prone to viewing it as though I AM a vicarious member of the team. In feeling that way, I tend to perceive future games as if I were preparing to play it myself. It's just how I've conditioned myself toward the team and school.

I think the team has shown that it can beat the best and lose to teams that are not their equal. They could sweep the conference and they could stumble and lose more than they should. I like to take it one game at a time.

What makes more lofty predictions feasible is our increased margin of error this year. More guys who can score, more experience, better from the FT line, better on defense (I think, anyway).
Last couple of years, if Marcus was off, and if we didn't get a big game from Brice or Kennedy, we were going to lose against decent teams. This year, Marcus can have down games, Jackson can struggle shooting, Meeks can be out... but we have so many other guys who can step it up and lead us offensively..... Hicks, Berry, Britt, Pinson, etc. And much more consistency from Brice, and a healthy Marcus obviously help a ton, vs. last year.

I have faith that UNC can and should win most of its games, and we do have a favorable-ish schedule to that point. However, I saw a stat this morning that no Roy Williams coached UNC team has won its first four ACC games in a row, let alone 12. Our 3-0 start this year matches Roy's best ACC starts, which were 2005 and 2008. Think how many good teams we've had since Roy has been here, National Championship teams, Final Four teams, ACC regular season or tournament championship teams, and no team has started 4-0 in the ACC. That doesn't mean it's impossible, but we have to take it one game at a time.

I am very impressed with how well they have played since the Texas loss. And, that loss was hardly a beat-down. It's also amazing to see them perform on the level they have WITHOUT a key player on their team!

Rocks, I don't agree with you often but I will this time. Barring any significant injuries and the players play based on their proven abilities they should be 12-0 going into the Duke game. Yes, they may trip along the way but they will be favored to win every game. IMO, the Heels will not make the Final Four unless they secure the #1 seed in the East. The top teams are very equal in talent this year. The closer the Heels are to a friendly crowd, the better. To get the #1 seed in the East they need to go on a run and stay in the Top 5 for a long period of time. The Eastern Reginal will be held in Raleigh this year. Secure the #1 seed in the East will be an easier path to the Final Four. I think the Heels cannot lose more than 4-5 regular season games to secure the #1 seed in the East. Losing early season games that they should win will drop them out of the Top 10 and it will be an uphill battle to get the a #1 seed. They need to go on a run of wins and now is the time to do it. This is year to win the title. Championship teams win tough road games. Now is the time to step up.

the brake is the pedal on the left side. please pump it.

Yeah, we should know good & well that some ACC team is going to sneAK UP AND BITE US ON THE BUTT! Happens every season, we win games that maybe should be a loss but it will be one of those lower ACC teams that shocks us.

KenPom's simulation has us losing by 6 at Louisville. We'll probably be an underdog in that game.

The parity in college basketball is a real thing. Add the 3 point shot and every night can be a battle. I'll take it one game at a time.

Parity means we have nobody to fear! Other side of the coin, Dude.

I've been watching Tar Heel bball for almost 50 years and I know how easy it is to lose focus and lose games in the ACC; this also means I know a team with a legitimate shot when I see one too! I love watching them play and I believe we could be watching a special season. I also know that bball fate is fickle but why not expect the best instead of the worst?

Not sure how fans on a message board overlooking teams has any barring on the attitudes of the actual players.

We can speculate and make predictions all we want, I'm hoping after being humbled twice already this season the team and coaches have learned to take it one game at a time

It doesn't have any bearing on the players. But it does color how those same overly confident posters react when we lose a game "we shouldn't lose".

I would bet a fair sum that Carolina loses 2 or more ACC games before playing Duke.

And exactly why is it that any of us should care about a simulation of a game? This is not a video game so between simulations and toilet paper give me the toilet paper... Again, watch the friggin games and put down the joy stick...

Didn't get my point... My point is starting 12-0 will be difficult and Vegas probably will have us as an underdog in at least one game by then.

Let's just beat the Cuse Sat night OK??? Jimmy B back on the sidelines and their crowd will be pumped///we got waxed there the last time we played... One point win and I will be happy

I'm actually a bit concerned about the Syracuse game. Boeheim returns and the Carrier Dome will be packed. They've lost their ACC games thus far and they're due for a break-out game.

Nah, look at the schedule, we won't be underdogs in any of those games.

But that isn't the point. The point is that favorites lose, all the time. Especially on the road. 2 top 10 teams just lost last night and one of them was at home. Parity is real and it doesn't mean we aren't a great team if we lose.

I don't worry about going 12-0 to start the ACC. I worry about going 6-0 to start the NCAA's :)

I don't EVER overreact to wins or loses. I have seen too many seasons to do this. 12-0 is extremely difficult, but I feel possible and I think last year has NO bearing on this year's team! Every great team I have seen has a few head scratching losses that were galvanizing and I believe this team has already had them. I also know that you can lose to ANY ACC team on the road, but I believe in the toughness of our team to get us through.

Syracuse is the first of several tough tests that I expect our Family to pass!

Yes,100 mph, downhill foot on gas, no brakes... That's the way we play.
No, no, no, no, no. The Heels play fast, but not break-neck speed. Slow is efficient, efficient is fast, therefore slow is fast. Play as fast as possible WHILE ALSO UNDER CONTROL.

The OP is famous for hyperbolic posts, and then sitting back and watching the feeding frenzy. Can we win the next 12? Sure. Will we? Probably not.

Keeping my preseàson expectations realistic is what allows me to enjoy every season for what it is. I never get too high after a wiñ nor too low after a loss. I just try to enjoy the ride. Age has taught me that, if nothing else.

TBS, I still bought a powerball ticket tonight.

:p
