I teach karate to about 15-20 kids. Have been for about 20 yrs. last night asked them for their fav and least fav tksgvng dish

Easily the fav was mac n cheese, which i didnt know was a tksgvng dish but whatever. Noone said turkey or stuffing

Easily least fav was mashed potatoes

As for moi

Stuffing/dressing is my fav. I put fresh stump sound oysters in mine

I despise green bean casserole.

I’m charcoal grilling the turkey. Done that several years and its amazing. Takes a while and lots of attention but worth it

My friends had a lengthy debate about this last year. We did it by plate.

First plate: Dark meat turkey, mash, mac and cheese, stuffing (preferably pretzel), corn. Gravy on everything, spread across the plate

Second plate: Turkey, mac and cheese, mash with gravy on just the turkey and mash

That sounds amazing. My fav is also the dressing, of course, accompanied by gravy.

My least favorite is probably the turkey. I'm just not a big turkey guy. Dark meat over light meat but even still, it's meh. I'm also not a big fan of that weird Ambrosia salad my mom always makes. Mandarin oranges, marshmallows, coconut...I don't know everything in it but it's lame.

Honey baked ham easily my fave

And I second your green bean casserole as the worst

Ham is a Christmas thing for us. But I feel inclined to beat you over the head for eating that awful honey baked stuff. You need to get yourself a Virginia, salt cured ham. It's infinitely better than honey baked.

Not sure I can pick a favorite - mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and oh yeah, the turkey and dressing.

The cranberry sauce is ok for a once-a-year seasonal flavor, but I could do without it, especially if it's just out of the can.

Ya, I could honestly do without the turkey and just get after all the sides and other stuff. F those kids for bashing the mashed potatoes though - one of the best parts.

My favorite is the stuffing (apparently also called dressing around these parts, but I guess I should just expect stupid names for normal things at this point with the whole Coke debate).

But we don't actually stuff it in anything. We use it just to dress up the turkey.

Agreed, and I was thinking about this. Dressing is definitely the more accurate name. However, that's already taken by the stuff you put on salads. And even though "stuffing" is a misnomer, it's used by the vast majority of the country, so those saying "dressing" should just give it up.

Just like me and the whole "non-revenue" sports thing. I think people sound stupid that call them non-revenue when they really mean unprofitable, but you don't see me bringing that up all the time ;)

The inside of the bird is pretty gross. Why would anyone voluntarily eat something that came from there when the same thing can be prepared outside the bird?

Favorite(s): Dressing, broccoli casserole, and ham.

Worst: Cranberry sauce. That stuff sucks.

P.S. If the dressing doesn't give you heartburn then you didn't do it right.

Not many people are fans of turnip greens. Side note, I have grown collards out here in Nebraska and the folks who have tried them love them.
Not all cooks can cook greens (any greens) properly, it takes a knack.

I love a good food thread . . !

Corn bread dressing is my fave . . not sure that I have had anything on Turkey Day that I dislike.
