I honestly cannot pick. The first 3 of the year all have their specific draw. Augusta is the beginning of the year. Spring springs. I feel anew. The U.S. Open is the toughest test in golf. You're usually going to see something wild and it often produces riveting TV if not excellent play. And it's a bonus when it's hosted on the west coast because I love watching golf at night. And then there's The Open - where golf began. It has the mystique and lore factor. And I especially enjoy the broadcast commentary for this event.

I forgot to answer my own question. I like watching the British Open, but don't really know what it is that draws me in so much. I like all of them, but the British Open is my favorite. Maybe it's because I've always been a Tom Watson fan and that was the tournament he always did so well in, though it was heartbreaking to see him lose it 2009 (at age 59!) when he kind of had it wrapped up.

Only 5 votes so far so maybe too early to tell but I would have thought the Masters would have been the leader with those on this board.

That was one of the most crushing things I have ever seen in sports.

I like the British the best, Masters 2nd, PGA 3rd and US 4th.

But the Ryder Cup is consistently my favorite event in sports.

Stop it. No one likes the PGA Championship. Hell, I like the TPC at Sawgrass (and maybe even Scottsdale) better.

But I agree on the Ryder Cup. That event taking place only every other year is partly what makes it so cool. And the camaraderie between all the guys is fun to watch.

US Open sucks. It frequently has some issue related to the course or the USGA that pisses everybody off. Also, I don't like to see a course that is designed, through absurd conditions, to be so hard that the winner shoots even par.

Sawgrass is meh. I don't like Pete Dye courses (Harbor Town being the exception). Scottsdale is fun, but I am usually focused on basketball at that point.

There are lots of reasons I like the Ryder Cup, not the least of which being that it is match play, which is the game that almost all of us play on the weekend.

I voted US Open cause I actually like seeing the players struggle at times although I watch them all as much as possible

.

The '99 Open at Carnoustie when Jean Van de Velde lost after having a 3 stroke lead walking to the 18th tee box is the biggest meltdown and choke job I've ever witnessed in sport. Surely you must have seen that. "Crushing" is how I would characterize that.

I agree, that was the biggest choke job, but Van de Velde wasn't Watson. Everyone was cheering for Watson all the way through his final 18, whereas nobody much cared about VdV until we all felt sorry for him. He could have played that last hole with a 7 iron, wedge and putter and won by 2 strokes.

I watched every shot in that Open as I had just played Carnoustie the previous summer. That course is a monster when the wind is blowing.
