I'm sure this thread will go over like a lead balloon, given its subject and that it isn't about our awful attendance.
Raising Heel and I were talking about this yesterday. Is Larry Fedora perfect? Absolutely not. He's made his share of blunders for sure, as we all now.
But damn guys, how do we, as a fanbase, so easily forget:
1). just how BAD we were under Bunting (hello...2 and 3-win seasons)
2). Just how bad things COULD have gotten after Butch was fired.
Larry Fedora and his staff during his tenure have kept this ship on course and maintained our usual output of 6-8 wins. That in itself is amazing and LF deserves a ton of credit. Do you realize how in shambles things were when Withers wasn't retained? He basically stopped recruiting when he knew he wouldn't get the job. Larry came in, held the existing class together, and quickly won over Mr. Quinshad Davis in just 2 months (I heard he broke a record yesterday!)
Fedora and his staff have recruited at a Top 30 class-level every season, despite facing an all-out assault from local media, occasional national media, and even friendly fire from certain bozos from within our own faculty. He's done this while experiencing AWFUL fan support and attendance, yet has never complained once. Other coaches would've gotten pissy by now. He hasn't complained once. He's positive 100% of the time, and he's always enthusiastic about Carolina.
He's also bringing in -- from all accounts -- quality young men to represent the university, and I love that.
No I'm not absolving him from the Zero Dark Thirty miscue or any of the others. But let's pump the effing brakes on "I'm just not sold on Fedora." He has guided this program through an EXTREMELY turbulent time that could have easily, EASILY left us as a 3-wins-per-year program. Let's try to remember that. That alone makes his tenure a success in my mind, regardless of how many more years he coaches here.
Go Heels!
