The Tar Heels struggled in short yardage situations through the first seven games, but in wins at Virginia and at home versus Georgia Tech this past weekend, the Heels have raised the game. They ran the ball in untouched from 4 yards out twice at Virginia, and on a 4th-and-1 play in the first quarter Saturday against the Yellow Jackets, Elijah Hood rambled 36 yards into the end zone.

“Well, I think part of it is that Hood is finally back to being healthy, and that’s been good,” UNC coach Larry Fedora said. “And I think our offensive line, with all the changes to the offensive line, they’re starting to get a little bit more comfortable with each other and who’s up there. I just think we’re executing better.”

A few weeks ago, when asked about the problems, Fedora and offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Chris Kapilovic said it was really as simple as just getting it done. It was about winning battles and executing. Is it that simple?

“It’s not like we were going to come up with some magical plays, it’s just executing,” Fedora said. “You’re going to put a body on a body and knock them off the ball and the running back gets the first down.”
