This quote from @David Sisk is EXACTLY why I think Cormac Ryan should be playing the 3 and not the starting 2
His skillet fits what Hubert was asking Leaky yo be last year, but Ryan is much more equipped to be successful at that role than Leaky was. Better shooter and I think a better vision as a ball mover and people mover than Leaky.
playing Ryan at 2g makes our starting 5 very unathletic at most of the starting positions. Withers being the exception possibly. I think both Ryan and Ingrams athleticism plays better if they were the 3 and 4 and of course Cadeau playing alongside RJ would bring athleticism.
See Davids quote below:
"Cormac Ryan is not a guard who is going to create his own shot. As we have said, he has to have the right opportunity. He will run into plenty of ACC guards who will be more athletic. Those are not made for him. He isn't going to mismatch big men on the switch either. In the following clip, Notre Dame is in a five-out. North Carolina switches Bacot onto him off the ball-screen. One would think Ryan would a big advantage with the perimeter drive, but he did not.
Ryan's crossovers and dribble moves are not explosive. He also uses the hesitation, which Bacot does not bite on. His size and length makes a pull-up jumper difficult. Ryan would love to bait him into a mistake, and that would come by raising up against the hesitation. He needs to have a bigger player or one of his athleticism and size make a mistake. Bacot doesn't do that."
This is also why I believe we might have a logjam at the 2/3 if Cadeau reclasses. I welcome him aboard at any time he wants to join us because he is a generational talent, but I prefer '24. I want to see what happens if RJ is our point (Trimble is backup), Wilcher + Ryan compete for starting 2, Ingram/Ryan share the 3, Withers/Washington share 4, Bacot/High 5
