Final AP Poll, UNC # 15

http://espn.go.com/college-football...a-crimson-tide-lead-2016-way-too-early-top-25

UNC is #17 in the "way too early top 25" from ESPN for 2016. They make a point to mention that we'll play two FCS teams again next year. Wish we could switch out The Citadel for some equally bad FBS team so we can get praised for playing a cupcake as opposed to chastised for it.
Yep but it's just too dang hard to schedule this close to the season. That's an industry problem, not a UNC problem.

ADs are going to have to come together and figure out a way to schedule closer to a particular season, a la how basketball has the luxury of doing it. Strength of schedule is too important now for schools to schedule 5-8 seasons in advance. It works both ways too. Say that today UNC schedules Baylor for a home-and-home in 2021 and 2022; now say it's the year 2019 and Baylor has collapsed back to its normal awfulness. UNC needs the freedom to swap that game out for a better team if we were counting on that game to be our "statement" game.

But yeah, the narrative is out. As dumb as it is, we will be punished again next season for playing two FCS teams. Nevermind the fact that A&T would beat or play toe-to-toe with 10+ FBS teams (Idaho, Wyoming, Texas State, Charlotte, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Tulane, Kansas, North Texas, Army, etc.) And nevermind that the Citadel beat SCar this past season. UNC won't get a lick of credit for that.

Hey, if a team scheduled North Dakota State........that's a more impressive game than playing the bottom ~35 FBS teams, at least. Some FCS teams can ball.

Agreed on everything. I realize that as it stands now, schedules are set years in advance, but hope as you mentioned - they can figure out a way to allow for schedule changes a year or so beforehand.

NDSU would indeed be a tough game. JMU and The Citadel went 9-3 and 9-4 last year respectively, compared to a team like UCF who went 0-12 (which included losses to 2 FCS teams I believe). Yet next year when discussing strength of schedule people will be hollering "2 FCS teams?!?! Cupcake schedule!" whereas if we had UCF instead, which is probably a worse team than both of them, those same people would be saying good job one scheduling tougher opponents.

Yep, and that's because people are too lazy to do their own research and just follow the groupthink of the popular narrative. It's no different than people's homogenized views on music, politics, etc etc.

Pretty fair ranking IMO. While the AP poll is much better than the coaches' poll, you have to laugh at some of the drastic "corrections" made after bowl season. Houston jumps 6 spots? Northwestern drops 11 spots? Okay.

6 spot jump for Houston well justified after beating FSU. Northwestern got curb stomped by Tenn so that was pretty justified also. NW got too much mileage out of their win over Stanford to get to where they were.

The rankings are fool's gold most of the time. The people doing the ranking are doing their best... I guess. But, the rankings are hardly an accurate list, for reasons already mentioned.

If someone had told me last August that UNC would be ranked #15 after the end of this season, I would never have believed them. We had an incredible regular season. One of the best ever. That should be a springboard for future success.
