would you rather the basketball team make the final 4 this year or the football team make the BCS playoffs next year?

I'm going with basketball, because I think we would have a legitimate shot to win it all, whereas football would take 2 huge miracles.

But if the football team was a top 5 team all year and made playoffs, then I would go with football. Provided that the team doesn't wear any stupid uniforms.

Tough, tough call.

Despite being a bigger football fan, I'm going to vote basketball (should have been a poll, noob). We're just not a legitimate national title contender in football, so I'd rather take my chances on the hardwood. I want to win another basketball championship because I bet you could see the mushroom cloud in West Rawlee all the way from Charlotte.

Only if you sustain it. And you have to win the whole damn thing too
You do have to sustain it, but you don't necessarily need a natty. It is really, really hard to win it all. A list of champions in my lifetime only includes about a dozen teams. Schools like TCU, Baylor, and Clemson have asserted themselves in the championship conversation most every year despite not winning one in the last quarter century.

I guess given that choice, with no guarantee of a 'ship in either case, I'd have to take football. The basketball team has been to the FF before, and already has some hardware for this season; but for football that would mean we'd have already had an undefeated or one-loss season and brought home a conference championship.

But wow, tough call. I really want the hardcourt Heels to win this thing.

football

for me, football is so cyclical...and with this program it's been almost two decades since they were a legit program...one year in the f4 and it might set up a half decade of acc dominance...which could turn into a powerhouse quickly.

And, this...

I want the football team to do well I really do but I think it's because we know that we will never get any respect from the voters in football.

Basketball because I'm just a bigger college basketball fan than college football fan. I love college football but not like basketball. It would be pretty awesome to see them make some serious noise next year. Turn Hood loose and let him hammer people.

I'd say basketball. We are certainly on the right path in football, and I want us to succeed there, but right now, I think the basketball team needs it more. This is the longest Final Four drought we've had in 25 years, and in the interim since our last Final Four, we've seen Duke win two titles. I just think a Final Four (and possible title) would mean so much more right now because it would be a nationwide announcement that UNC basketball is back. While I want us to be a power in both, we need the sustained success in football to really get that respect. We already have that in basketball, but we need to reassert it.

Look at the payoff for each particular occurrence. Cost-benefit analysis if you will (am I getting the financial talk right @Hark_The_Sound_2010, or nah?).

If Carolina hoops makes the Final Four tomorrow night and even if they win the whole thing, it will make a splash for about four days. The recruiting challenges Roy is facing lately (lack of Tar Heels becoming major NBA stars, unwillingness to play freshmen over upperclassmen, black cloud of scandal) aren't going to suddenly go away with a Final Four and/or a national title. At least, that's my opinion. I don't think us winning it all would cause a major uptick in recruiting. Brice Johnson getting drafted in the first round (and doing well in the league) and the final NCAA ruling will do much, much more for our hoops recruiting.

Now imagine if Carolina Football makes the playoff this year on the heels of playing in the ACCCG last season (with a new QB, to boot). That will get much more recognition for a couple reasons. One is just that college football gets much more publicity and airtime than college hoops. The other reason is that 6-7 season --> ACCCG appearance --> playoff appearance would show an undeniable upward trend, similar to what Clemson showed in '14 and '15. Our football recruiting -- which is already doing pretty darn well -- would improve even further, and we'd finally be able to (hopefully) land the very upper-echelon pieces that we're narrowly missing out on each year (Nate Craig-Myers, Dexter Lawrence, Darian Roseboro, Shy Tuttle, etc. etc.) which would transform us into a very solid offensive and defensive team.

Basketball, and I wouldn't even think twice about it. As much as I want the football program to turn the corner and become power, with what the basketball program has had to endure over the past few years, this would be the sweetest title we've ever had. It would mean so much to bring this one home to help insure this program isn't going anywhere.
