Franklin Street Nostalgia

Here are some old ones: Carolina Grill, Jeff's, NC Cafeteria, Bacchae(sp?). Trying to remember more but it's been a while.

Some more oldies: The Scoreboard, The Shack, The Town Hall, Brady's, Ye Old Tavern

I'm younger than y'all, significantly. I miss PT's on Henderson / Franklin.

I also never went to Time-Out once because it was way down by Granville Towers where I never lived. Since they moved locations to where East End used to be, I have been to Time-Out several times since graduating. My late-night drunk munchies spot was Qdoba on the intersection of Columbia and Franklin. Lines out the door until 3 a.m.

Buns is solid too. That's where the majority of my recent drunken adventures have night capped in Chapel Hill.

Qdoba was obviously a great spot. They had a gay mexican guy that worked there - not sure if he was noteworthy enough to be remembered by anyone else - but my buddy that spoke fluent Spanish (but wasn't gay) would always flirt with the guy when we went in late night and we'd end up getting a bunch of free food, haha.

Buns is a solid burger, but for whatever reason, I never frequented that place real late at night.

I don't recall the Qdoba employee you're referring to. Of course.. I don't remember much about Qdoba except the amazing steak burrito when drunk.

My bars of choice on a "going out" night while in school were:

- Spanky's (good place to start out because it was never crowded and you can get a good meal too)
- Top of the Hill
- Goodfellows
- then eventually once I was nice and drunk, I'd end with East End. It was the only 18+ place, so you pretty much swallowed your pride (and alcohol) by that point in the night and started hitting on freshmen, sorry first-years.

PTs was one of my favorites. Got roped into going to Bobs more than I'd like to admit, and was never really a fan of La Rez. He's Not was probably where I went the most since a bunch of my buddies worked there, although I recognize that's not exactly a "going out" bar. Carolina Coffeeshop was a good place too.

I worked at time out. It was so awesome breading enough chicken to fill a box a washing machine could fit in each sun morning.

He's Not Here... not sure if it's still there, heard it got shut down a while back...

I have a great memory of hes not here. The intramural team i was on won the volleyball championship. We headed to hes not here for the celebration. It was EPIC. One of the greatest nights i ever spent in chapel hill. We sat formseveral hours and drank many pitchers. then we went back to granville where they had a keg and women from granville east waiting for us.

Bob's or Bub's?

This thread has hit most of my Franklin Street hotspots while in CH. Schoolkids Records, The Rat, Gumby's, Time Out Chicken. My friends and I weren't really part of the "going out" crowd so our watering holes were usually He's Not and Bub's. Emphasis on "holes" in the case of Bub's. I can't believe that place is still standing.

Let me just say that I've always despised how people abbreviate it "He's Not," but I know no one cares.

I was talking about Bobs. I've been to Bubs a decent amount too - that place can be good on the right night. Carolina Brewery has some good beers.

The Crunkleton is a fairly new one - I'm sure many on here haven't been there, not really a rowdy "going out" bar, more just a place you'd go to wind down and get a whiskey or something. I remember when I was in school a few buddies and I went in there and saw Ric Flair (it was pretty much just us, him, and maybe a couple other people - but pretty dead overall). He bought us a round of shots and we got him to give us a few "Wooo!!!'s"

went there on the day of the Kentucky Derby and it was a lively crowd , some friends from Va. were in town and he had made a recruiting visit for the golf team back in the day and he wanted to see the campus again. He didn't get an offer and said the out of state tuition was a bit steep.

Which is totallyyyyyy He's Not Here's fault.

</sarcasm>

Don't get me started...
I go to a bar/club in Raleigh some times and about 11 p.m. a number of moo kids come in , some 21 and others 18-20 and they get banded if they are under 21 , but they slip drinks to each other. Unfortunately the bar is still liable and that is screwed up.

Gotcha. How long has that place been around?

I'm not sure. @TarHeelNation11 you have any idea how long its been there? I had always thought it had been around for awhile, but I don't really know.

It could be fun sometimes, but I've definitely had plenty of underwhelming times there. It's pretty much the main bar for frats/sororities (thus how I was talked into going fairly often)- so you always run into the same people there night in and night out - for better or for worse.

I played on a pool team at Zogs and hit the winning shot to beat the team from Time Out for the Championship. The name of the team I was on was the O zees named after and ounce of pot.
