K strikes again. This kid is David Robinson's son and he would be better off at another school. The kid will NEVER see any floor time at Duke. In lieu of redshirting he should be transferring. The kid could be a starter at another school but I guess his dad is okay with him sitting on Duke's bench for 5 years and earning a Duke degree.

He went to Duke as a Walk-On. Non issue, but why would a walk-on redshirt?

Mikey, he was given a full scholarship by K which makes it even more weird. K gives him a scolly and redshirts him. Hey, at a private school you can do anything you want. K probably told his father that as long as your son is satisfied to sit on the bench for 5 years its a good way to get a free education. K probably warned him that if you "break the code" I will force your son out.

"Mr. Robinson, if you will just sit right over there with a duke hat on, so the TV can pan in on you regularly, your son can get a free ride" "Now, if you take that hat off, then sonny boy doesn't play for free. Assuming he actually plays at all. Just like a mother we knew that when her son went pro early, that job of hers went away also"

"And here's to you, Mr(s). Robinson
Jesus (K) loves you more than you will know wo wo wo
God bless you please, Mr(s). Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who p(r)ay
Hey hey hey, hey hey hey"

David Robinson is as good of a dude as there is. So not sure why people are banging on his kid. You red shirt him because he can't help you now and is a looking like a late bloomer who is expected to grow to somewhere between 6'10-7' in a couple years like his father did at Navy. He is 6'8" now. It's a smart gamble. The dookies get a kid with NBA HOFer pedigree , money isn't an issue for his family , and looks to be on a late bloomer development curve. I am annoyed as anyone by master splinter but the dude isn't dumb.

Agree, David Robinson is very smart. His kid gets a free education and he gets free tickets to Duke games. On the other hand, his kid will never get any significant minutes at Duke and that may not bother him one iota. K gets a player who fills out the roster and is a good practice player who will not complain. Someone who will not break the code.

young Mr. Robinson could prove to be a valuable piece down the road....kid is right where HE wants to be

"Can't Touch That" Boogie we agree on this. Getting a free education at Duke is not a bad deal. Starts out as walk-on with parents paying and K swoops in with a scolly. K gets a good practice player for 4-years and David Robinson sitting in the stands for some good photo ops for the press guide. The kid does not make any waves.

So when does David's some get PT to get him to the NBA? Or is he just going to slide a seat down each year until he arrives at the Kenny Dennard Memorial seat, far, far away from K?

I think we all agree here. This was a great move all around!

I think the only thing left is to come up with a good nickname for the younger Robinson. I was thinking about "Torpedo" or "Jettison" but I have to give this some more thought.

I guess I'm a little confused. Robinson wasn't a top 150 player and wasn't going to contribute his first couple of years anyway, why not redshirt. I don't see the big deal.

WHO CARES
Agree 100%
With respect to the OP this is really trivial and it doesn't involve Carolina Basketball.
It's one thing to hate Dook, very admirable in fact. But do we need so many threads about everything that goes on over there?

First, two words .." Loss Prevention"....look up the definition. Second, a famous quote comes to mind by Mike Tyson when he said "Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face". Bottom line, sometimes you can't let things go unchallenged. If saying something stops just one rival fan from harping on a topic or avoiding comment, then our chatter serves it's purpose regardless of how trivial and silly it may seem to some.

I hear ya Steat, I just wish we could talk about the Heels a little more and other teams less.
Gary began two really good threads about the team in the last couple of days and neither has had as many views as this one.
Yes, there are good threads about Nate, Joel James etc, but there's something about the Dook threads that bug me... maybe it's the trolls who come out from under their rocks every time KRat is mentioned.
All that said, I'm 100% for dredging up the Lance Thomas Bling affair at any chance possible......

Some of the posters on this Board are so jealous of Duke that it is frightening. Why in the world would you worry about a great BB player/person's son going to a great academic school, that happens to not be named UNC.
What possible business is it of yours where he goes, or if he redshirts, or if he does or doesn't have a scholarship????? Or where his father sits?????? Get a life! Cheer on, and be concerned about UNC, and let Duke worry about Duke. I hope that your moderator Mike is doing better and has a fast and full recovery.
Oh by the way, what University medical School/Hospital was he treated at????????

he was treated at a Medical School or University Hospital before the "at", must have been a three year soc major like jason...

One son playing football at Notre Dame and the other playing basket ball at Duke. Not too shabby....this link explains the connection and shows the kid was apparently a long time Duke fan.

Thank you for that link. That link just helped clinch the nickname for the younger Robinson. I will now officially refer to him as "Jettison" Robinson. Perhaps we can compare Luke Maye's stats to Jettison's stats in the future. Of course, assuming Jettison ever gets any playing time in his 5 years at Duke. Now, "I'm not talkin bout practice" time. Love myself some Luke Maye!

Frankly, there are more Duke threads over here than DI. Which is why I spend a considerable amount of time reading your boards. Not very many State threads though...

It goes back and forth as to who has the most threads on either board. It's what rivals do.We talk about State on the The Blitz.
