Georgetown Hires Patrick Ewing As Coach

his staff will truly make or break his tenure
Not sure he truly understands what is waiting for him with respect to Alumni / Recruiting current culture of AAU and the "me" era of players

I thought his ambition was Head Coach in the NBA not College therefore I question how vested he will be after a 1-2 year run

will be interesting to watch from a distance for sure

Does he have any experience?
He's been on NBA benches as asst. coach for quite a few years, I think. I have no idea how that will help him do well at Georgetown (Washington, DC).

Sure his name is right at the top along with the Thompsons and Allen Iverson regarding GU fame.... but there is a lot more that goes into it. I think there are a ton of colleges in that area, and I believe even JT3 (and the connections he and his dad had in the area) - had a very hard time recruiting into GU. You have to have a lot of high school connections and relationships. I assume Ewing has almost zero. The recruiting is so time consuming. I wonder if Ewing is up for that very thankless grind part of the job.

Not sure about his x's and o's prowess either. Maybe he's good. Maybe can get back to attracting bigs like himself, Alonzo, Dikembe....but those aren't really the focus of the college or pro game any more. I know kid's shied away from GU when JT3 was there because he coached at Princeton, and JT3 instilled the slow-down, Princeton offense. No big time recruits wanted to play that way (big time recruits want to showcase their NBA up-and-down scoring skills) - and few fans wanted to attend. I heard their games were a ghost town recently

He'll do good on recruiting, but like others I also question his experience.

He has worked as an assistant in the NBA for at least 15 years. Who knows. they may become a OAD factory.
