5 McDonald's all Americans in the starting lineup. But not only that but all have experience three juniors and two seniors. Plus another McDonald's all American and 5 star center in tony Bradley with senior Nate Britt and Kenny Williams and a top 10 recruiting class . Kensucky can have all that one and done freshman give me experienced talent and unc will keep on beating those wild kitties and adding to are lead in this mismatch of a series. Smell a wild kitty beat down in Vegas baby!

Yeah, pretty darn good.

Better than other teams' starting fives? Probably not. Some other teams have more talent but generally not as much experience. But some of them will probably develop their new guys enough to catch up or even pass us by the end of the season.

OTOH, that was true last season, too. And yet it wasn't Kentucky or Duke or one of the others with the top youngsters who edged us out in the end. So who knows?

I like the team we start with. Some question marks, but not huge ones. We should be good and might be really good.

I think you are likely correct with that lineup and the last line.
That's an interesting definition of "talent" however --- we'll have 5 Burger Boyz and all upper-classmen. I can't see anyone's starting 5 as good or better... nor even passing us by. Now, granted, there will be the OAD-factory teams at kensucky and dook who will be very formidable by season's end, but the dookies would be far less without their upper-classmen (and classless). Folks tend to get far too enamored with the next big thing. The Fab Five still insist they were better than dook in 92 and UNC in 93 --- that didn't work out too well for em...

It's a great starting five, yes burger boys but not OAD's which (for me) is preferred. But, with all the talent and experience, this team will give us fits at times.

I reckon there'll be at least two early season losses due to front court foul troubles.
Add in another head-scratcher or three with Roy playing mad professor with the line-ups.
Shooting consistency from Justin and Theo will be crucial (I'm not saying Theo needs to become Steph Curry, but he'll need to knock down some shots at a decent clip)

There's really good depth in the back court, though the frosh (7th and BRob) will need to earn their stripes.
Front court depth is an issue - Tony is unproven, Luke will be about a year away from providing solid, consistent minutes, so expect Dave to get his wish with a fair chunk of small-ball. This will likely see Isaiah, Kennedy or Tony playing with a combo of Justin, Theo, Nate, KW, BRob and Seventh.

So, Burger Boys without the razzle dazzle, but, down the home stretch this is yet another team built for a deep March run... enough so that they're entirely capable of playing their way through to April!

I LOVE our starting line up and really like our back court depth a lot. However I think we do need another big body and that is why I posted the thread about the 6'9" kid from Ga Tech . Whether it is him or someone else, I would feel a lot better with just one more big available off the bench.

Hard to argue with the experience we bring back. Talent wise Kensucky and Puke can make a case.

Looks like the big 3 college bball teams will be the talk this year. Where do we rank preseason? I am guessing 3rd.

I agree. Considering talent, experience, and chemistry, i would take our starting 5 over anyone else's. No guarantee or expectations it means a title but its the beat place to start.

Who has the more talented starting 5? I don't see it anywhere. I also don't see Kentuck or puke being better than us at any point next year. We may have questions, but they have much bigger ones and far more uncertainty. Injury and peeps regressing are my biggest worries, but I have no fear of Tony not making an impact and I expect KW to really come into his own.

I expect that punk Vanilla Whip & Trip to be a chemistry problem when the fresh faces replace him in ratty's heart! (Sulkymon 2.0)
Kentuck better figure out how to keep its peeps happy too. (Slimey is admittedly good at this)

Tar Heels are back!

We're fine. Roy has several options for lineup configurations. '17 is the critical class for Bigs and Roy is going all in.

A lot depends on who comes back for some teams (like Kentucky). And how ready the frosh are for several. If you look at the 2016 recruiting classes, several teams hauled in a monster load of talent - Duke, Kentucky, Arizona and a few others. Not that we are struggling in that department - especially with Bradley moving up in the polls. But we are behind those teams in new talent, and our 2015 class is what it is (especially with Kenny coming off surgery).

As long as Justin returns, we'll definitely be one of the teams to beat. And we might well be the best team in the nation coming out of the gate. But some other teams will have the horses to give us a run down the stretch.

If Justin doesn't return, it will be tougher. But we should still be an elite team. We will be shorter - both physically and in bench depth. But if everybody makes solid gains year over year, we'll be in the mix - both in conference and nationally.

you do realize Justin has already announced he's coming back.

In the preseason, I said I thought the FF was a realistic expectation for last year's team due to a combination of talent, experience, and coaching. I think the same thing applies to next year's team.

I love our starting five, provided Nate isn't in it, and I love our bench. Lack of on the front line could be problematic. We simply can't afford an injury there.

And no, I don't dislike Nate. I feel he's better suited to be a role player off the bench. Some may disagree but I feel his minutes may even decrease next year, despite Roy's penchant for playing upperclassmen. Many feel Kenny will have improved a lot but for me, the jury is still out until I see him make a few treys. Personally, I'm very high on BRob's potential to have an impact early on. Love his size, length, and shot.

Duke will miss Plumlee and not have a natural point guard. I like the Heels chances in winning the ACC and securing a #1 seed.

Arch, I believe Pinson slides into the 2 spot. Pinson will have a breakout year.

That matchup will likely be can UNC find outside shooting and are Dukes freshmen up to speed by February. Could be one of the higher ranking matches in a while.

Brandon improved markedly as a HS senior but he will likely have (and need) the luxury of a year to learn w/ spot minutes next season as his body and game adjusts to college. In fact his path may be similar to KW's in that way, i.e., coming into his own in his second season. 7th actually probably has a better chance for an early impact because of his athletic explosiveness but he will likely be caught somewhat in a numbers game as well --- again, the luxury to learn and adjust. Of our 3 frosh Tony is by far the most college ready (and under-ranked by Rivals BTW) and will more than likely get the most minutes.

Speaking of Bradley, UNC folks needn't fret about our Bigs depth (barring injury). Luke should be markedly more confident and savvy as a Soph and will get a lot more than spot minutes this season. Folks who stereotyped him as another Jackson Simmons are likely to be rethinking that. And of course, having Mr. Versatility Pinson able to slide to the 4 enables us to go Small quite effectively.

I like our chances.

Luke is an enigma to me. U look at him and his measurables and think mehhh but then he plays and looks damn good. Esp on defense. I think maybe he has a high bball iq or something. Kinda reminds me of kevin mchale.

Everyone talks about talent coming in, but I prefer talent sticking around! I don't think the retooling your lineup every year formula can win consistently. I like to build up to dominating runs like last year and (hopefully) next year!
