Thankful to have had this kid in our program.
I am so thankful for ALL the kids in this program - but wow - thanks for sharing. Reading this puts a lot in perspective, and makes me respect the h___ out of KM even more. Where he comes from, how hard he works, the tough times he's had in his life, how challenging it has been to fight weight and stamina issues which are at least partially set via his genetics and how he ate growing up, etc.
....makes me feel bad / guilty for ragging on him some especially last year.
The things I love about Carolina basketball, and why the Heels are miles above any of my other favorite teams in any other sport - is the high character, work ethic, integrity, importance of family (blood line family and Heels basketball alumni and current team family), and the play for the love of the game and the relationships build that last a lifetime (vs. playing for money, the toys, the fame and adoration, the media).
I just KNOW these guys are more likeable, grounded, real, with perspective, than any group of guys in any pro sports.
And I believe that the Heels players and family - current, past and present.... are unique - in character, integrity, intelligence, relationships - vs. other college programs. Really well exemplified by everyone from Marcus to Kennedy to Luke to Kendall Marshall and Vince and on and on - just this week....
Again - I am biased on this, and other college programs would say they have the same culture and tradition, and family / relationships. Maybe. I doubt it. I don't see it. I don't hear about it. Not at Dook, surely not at UK. Maybe to a lesser extent at KU. I just can't foresee ever being a college basketball fan of any team other than the Heels. The amount that I follow them.... I feel in some way like a "ghost / silent" member of The Family.
