and a lot more of us should honestly. I knew this team had the talent for a final four run, but didnt think they had the toughness or fire to do it. it's been night and day since that debacle at the Dean Dome in February. Sorry for doubting you, Roy, you've taught me that every legendary coach always has one last great run left in him. Let's bring home the trophy in Houston boys

Roy has a tendency to have his guys playing well in March. Earlier in the year I said this team could be pretty dynamic if we simply did not have guys play poorly. Seems that has come to pass. I was not confident it would, lol. It's fun as hell to watch right now.

I swung and missed on the players. I thought they were soft and didn't have "it". They've proved me wrong. We've gotten a couple breaks. I personally thought Kentucky was going to determine the region. I thought West Virginia could match up with us athletically and could give us issues. And Xavier is probably better than Notre Dame. So the region broke our way IMO. But we've left no doubts.

I'm not going to say that I don't have questions in game with Roy. I absolutely do and I wish the Final Four was played in 2 days rather than Cuse having a week to prepare.

But I'll say this. While at UNC, Roy pretty much coaches to his seed line.

When we're a #1 seed, we typically make the final four. We didn't due to injury and another year we started 3 freshman. When we're an 8/9, we win a game, then lose to the #1. When we're a #6, we win a game, then lose in the second round. When we're a #4, we win 2 games, then lose to the #1 in the sweet 16.

There are very few coaches in the country I'd rather have than Roy with the perceived best team in the country. While at UNC, nothing in the tournament is a surprise (on average). I know we got upset by George Mason one year, but typically we know where we're going to get to in the tournament.

I don't think Roy will out coach his seed... That's a reason why Izzo will get a pass this year and maybe deserves one. But Roy will also not under coach his seed.

I said at the beginning of the year that anything short of a NCAA title would be a failure. I still feel the same way. We have the best team.

One thing to also consider is that the rotation and bench has gotten much shorter, as it typically does later in the season. I know Joel is usually the first guy off the bench, but he really only gets about 5 minutes a game, and Maye hasnt played any minutes while the game has been competitive. Pinson, Hicks and Britt are really the only guys that get meaningful minutes off the bench, which i think is a good thing. Having two guards that would start on a lot of teams and a big man that would be the best player on a lot of teams coming off the bench is a huge luxury

We do. But even the possibility of not winning it won't be for any lack of toughness, I can tell ya that.
There were some downright silly posts around here earlier this season, frankly. It has always been a matter of execution (like shooting and help-D) and constant effort by all 5 guys. When they're doing that? Duck.

Yah, but go look at the post on Kansas yesterday or today. Talk about a team / coach as a consistent underachiever..... you can say they were / are in a weak conference, but they've been beaten SO MANY teams 6+ seeds lower than them.....sometimes 9-11 seeds lower. I'd think fans are a lot more frustrated with Self than with Roy.

And for all Izzo is supposed to be..... he's only got one title and has lost a lot in the Elite 8 / Final Four. Way more than Roy.

Good on you for putting your hand up. Many posters went way over the top with the pessimism in January/February esp after the home loss to Dook.
But that's the beauty of a season, it gives teams (and coaches) the time to work it out, correct mistakes and build on strengths.
I'll only call you up on suggesting this might be Roy's last great run... the way he's been recruiting I think he's got plans for a few more years.

I would like to thank you for stepping up and admitting that you were way too hasty in bailing on the team. Both you and sjung are to be commended for eating some crow. I know I have had to do so in the past and it is not easy or fun, but shows that both of you are stand up guys.

Sadly, there are about ten others that cannot or will not do the same thing.

I am proud of this team for what they are accomplishing this season. The Duke loss at home was disappointing, but it seemed to motivate the players to take their games to another level. Now, they are two wins away from another National Championship. While it won't be easy, I firmly believe the Heels have the talent and mindset to cut down the nets next Monday.

Has ole Dickie V got over both Dook and Kensucky losing yet?I don't get how Izzo gets a pass especially since roy has owned his arse this decade.

"Rival Games" can always go either way. We have the greatest rival game in the land and some need to realize it can always go either way.

Good of the OP to step up and admit they were wrong.

Yeah - that thread that was on here saying "I'm done with this team" was an embarrassment to our fan base. Tar Heel nation are not fair weather fans and I got on a lot of people in that thread for their negativity.

Let this be a lesson for the future, never count out our boys, especially with the talent we put on the floor every night.

I'm right there with you. I was wrong. Said so after the ACC tourney. This team has continued to prove me wrong and make me look stupid!!!!!! I will gladly take it. Congrats to the boys and here's to two more wins hopefully. This team has already accomplished more than I thought they would.

The rest of you were right on this team.

Yeah, there were some unfortunate things said earlier season and I know I may have seemed a bit harsh in the way I retorted those folks but I just straight up really did not like the "I am giving up on this team thread". I didn't like it simply because we would never accept this team giving up or the coaches giving up and I think our expectations for them should be expectations we can as well uphold.

I realize folks were firing off out of frustration and I knew they wanted the same things I wanted. IT was just those "I GIVE UP" words burned a hole in me. I don't need folks to eat crow, I want folks to learn from this, embarassment is not what I want for folks, I want folks to think about this episode in the future when things don't look as great as they do today.

Hopefully this can help us move away from the need to splitting up in to seperate camps and away from labels being placed on UNC fans. If that can happen then it is well worth all the edgy feelings we all experienced a few weeks ago.

Well, I am glad the team has righted the ship. Very proud of what they have accomplished since the dook home game. I am looking forward to next weekend.

Now as for the thread I created, if you didn't like it, then you could have stayed away from it. You guys belittle anyone who was upset and blowing off after a terrible and embarrising loss like that. I am wonderfully glad that the team changed their mentality. I am glad that you can have all the optimism in the world. They could have just as easily tanked the remainder of the season and where would we be. I much rather have been on this side of the coin.
They deserved harsh criticism for how they were playing. And it seems that criticism is what sparked this run they are having. I sure roy used it in practice as well as half time speeches.
And also, I have read much worse in some of your game threads than what was posted by some in that thread. But you all tend to excuse that since it's in the game thread and not something posted afterwards.
The reality is, we all want them to win. We go about it in different ways. Some overly critical, and some overly optimistic. Part of being a fan. Theres not one person of these boards who hasn't at some point thought they could have done better with in game situations. That night we played dook, the vast majority of people could have done better. It was another epic letdown from our greatest rival. That will always be remembered.
Winning the chip, will also be remembered. I prefer the latter myself

My preseason prediction was that we were a lock for the Elite Eight. After which it would be a crap shoot.

We got some help from upsets in our region. Assuming we don't get complacent and that Syracuse doesn't have another awesome upset left in their tank, we will be playing for the championship.

I'm a very happy camper. Every additional game is frosting on an already excellent season.

lol theres not one single person on this board that could coach this team any better. Feel free to second guess all u want. Hell i do. And roy does as well for all of us to see. Hes the first to admit when hes out coached. But dont think for one freaking sec any of u are gonna convince me u know a damn thing more than he does.

Yes - no need to excuse that thread. The team played like garbage in that dook game, and anyone who couldn't admit that, and is taking the "holier than thou" approach is a buffoon - plain and simple. That's like the posters that keep throwing out that Meeks is "proving his doubters wrong", and then using that to try to throw jabs at people who pointed out the flaws in Kennedy's game. Is Kennedy playing well now? Yes absolutely. Did he play like crap a few weeks ago? Yes, absolutely. Need to be able to admit both of those in order to be taken seriously.

My preseason expectations mirrored yours. I'm elated to be going to Houston.

If this year has taught me anything, it's that fans react very differently to wins and losses. Some people feel compelled to vent after a loss, and while I wish they would show a little more restraint, I realize that it's not my place to tell them how to react. Nothing I do or say is going to change their reaction.

I'm glad the Heels are doing us proud. I want this team to win a title as much as any team I've wanted to win it since the '98 team, they're one of my 2-3 favorite UNC teams of all time.

I would eat crow but none of what I thought about this team was wrong 6-8 weeks ago and was completely warranted.
