Gotta love Sheed...

Part of me wants to see him on staff, but there may be too many restrictions on behaviour, language etc.
Sheed just being sheed is probably enough.
Sure as hell, he loves the Heels and seems to really enjoy being able to hang out with the program.
Wish there were a couple of recruits sitting near him, I bet he'd make a big impression on any kid whether they'd seen him play or not.

but think about him coaching up athletic bigs....damn

Gary thanks for sharing. I was about 20 rows behind Sheed and Lmac. Looked like Sheed was giving the business to Hicks at one point early in the game. I then saw him standing and clapping for Hicks after a nice stretch of play. The Heels are fortunate to have these kind of guys around the program and still wanting UNC to be the best!

One of my all time favorite players. I would LOVE to have him work with our big men regularly. Don't know how he would be as a coach, but your could bet he wouldn't let them get away with taking plays off.

The thing I think he could teach our big men that would benefit them most is to be aggressive down low. He either dunked it or shot a jumper. There was no such thing as a layup for him. It didn't matter if all 5 players from the other team were around him, he was going to take it up and dunk it on you.

For all the grief we give Roy, how the hell did dean not win the title in 95.

That team wasn't supposed to go as far as they did. Pat Sullivan, who would have been a Sr starter, missed most of the season with back surgery, and was limited when he came back. We had one legit PG (McInnis). Donald Williams' stroke went south most of the season and we had little serviceable depth.

Shammond Williams was a freshman mess and a turnover waiting to happen and Geth wasn't ready to be any help inside. Serge Zwikker was just starting to be effective by the end of that season behind Wallace, thus walk-on Pierce Landry was basically our 6th man. And remember, Sheed as a soph was far from perfect. He sometimes let his emotions get the best of him and get him in foul trouble.

Dean had to put square pegs in round holes that entire season. Stackhouse had to start at the 4, and Dante Calabria started at the 3, but also literally played every position but Center (he was the main backup PG as well). Speaking of adjustments, Dean played more Zone with that team than any other.

Despite all that they beat UK and went to the damned Final 4, and ONLY lost to Arkansas because they hit a 50 footer on a fluke play before the halftime buzzer (sound familiar?), and our 3 pointers went totally cold. Calabria (who actually led the ACC, 2nd in the nation shooting 52% from 3) didn't make a single 3 in that semi, IIRC. Even a modest pct in the second half and we win going away.

How

How the hell did we NOT repeat in 94?
That one is easy: poor team chemistry, because the 3 hyped freshman, Wallace and McInnis and Stackhouse (in that order or trouble making), came in and strutted with a sense of entitlement and offended all returning players. By tourney time, the team was fractured. It was the great blaring sign that Dean was too old and becoming soft. The Dean of 1970 or 1980 or even 1990 would not have allowed any group of freshmen cause such trouble. He would have benched them - at the far end of the bench - until they grew up and became team players with proper, and necessarily respectful, team attitudes.

Sad but true re: the chemistry issues. We returned everyone except Lynch, and added Sheed, Stack.

Took the words right out of my mouth. If he went up at the rim, you can bet your bottom dollar that he was going to either dunk it or get fouled. Nothing soft at the rim.

What a holy crock of horsesh**.
Chemistry issues? Yes.
Anything resembling what you just described? No.

Once you open your mouth, it removes all doubt; some could use a little doubt and a little more closed mouth!

DES did one of his best jobs overachieving with that team and only bball ignoramuses or youngsters think any different!

ON topic: I would love to have Sheed on staff; imaging him recruiting!
