Gritty win and great to see Nance step up.

Reposting most of this from the game thread:

I don't really think Nance had a great game. 5-15 from two, with several of those total gimmes. Couldn't take advantage from the high post because he's too stiff to drive and not good enough as a shooter. We should have smoked that defense, they have nobody but Edwards.

Nance was also known as a great passer coming from Northwestern but had two bad turnovers today, and some other missed opportunities. Hard to believe he was the focal point of the offense at NU.

He's also soft on interior defense and rebounding, and was again today. I thought he'd be a lot better this off-season. We knew he'd be a downgrade from Manek but I had thought the drop off wouldn't be huge; hope he proves my initial thought right.

Yeah, if his defense was a lot better than Maneks I would say it's a close trade off, but his defense has been suspect as well. He gets a couple good blocks here and there but he also gives up a lot of easy baskets.

This was the game last year that most of the players were saying heels really turned the corner before their big run. I'd feel a lot better if we were closing teams out. To make up for Maneks scoring loss, we need our big 3 to really step up consistently.

Hope rj is alright
Adam Lucas indicated a jammed or dislocated finger on his shooting hand, along with the obvious blow to the head. Some random person on Twitter quoted the post-game radio show and said Hubert mentioned the hurt finger, 2 hits to the head, and that RJ is good. I didn't listen to the radio show so I have no idea if that is accurate.

But this is definitely a good time for an 8 game layoff between games.

Yeah I thought his defense would be better because he's quite a bit taller/longer than Manek I think. But he doesn't have the strength, doesn't consistently box out, and is just a bit slow. Manek was slow too but knew where to be, especially by the end.

Nance is a smart guy so I think he can sleep improving on both ends as he gets comfortable with our team. Honestly I was so impressed with Love today that I'm shocked people are talking about anything else. That's huge for this team, but this just isn't really the game to point to as Nance's breakout; it's just schematic as Cuse always leaves the high post open.

He definitely made an impact this game, but it looked as if he should have had a huge night, if his mid range was going.

I agree his passing was suspect.
