So as not to hijack the Facebook thread any further:

They're a top 5er of all time for me. Of course I love them for the nostalgic value but I genuinely like their music. Speaking of the set list, it's funny but over the past 10 years I've really come to like a lot of the lesser known stuff. I mean, Maneater, Private Eyes and I Can't Go For That are all tight. But I've found some hidden gems in their catalog.
I genuinely like their music, too. They were at the height of their popularity when I first started receiving formal music instruction as a kid, so it was cool to be able to pick out their vocal harmonies. John Oates probably doesn't get enough credit for the backing vocal parts that only made the melodies that much more memorable.

They have an extensive discography. Most my knowledge gravitates around their commercial success: the Voices / Private Eyes / H20 / Big Bang Boom era. I have Abandoned Luncheonette on vinyl and played the Rock 'n Soul cassette until the tape self-destructed (recently re-purchased on iTunes). You're right about hidden gems. I was secretly hoping for something like Your Imagination last night but knew it wouldn't happen.

Here's the set list for Charlotte. Can't miss. First encore was Rich Girl and You Make My Dreams. Second encore was Kiss on My List and Private Eyes. Rich Girl had the house rocking but You've Lost That Loving Feeling was probably the biggest sing-a-long.

I like 2 or 3 songs from when I was a kid in the 70's, but nothing that special or ground-breaking for me. That crap they did in the 80's is cringe-worthy. Private Eyes, Maneater? Those songs are just abysmal.

Great songwriters, though, and Darryl Hall had a great voice- from a musician's standpoint. Super-talented guys. I like G.E. Smith and he was their guitar player for a while.

I saw their RNR HOF induction performance... dreadful.

Just about all of the music from The Wedding Singer is a prime example of how ashamed I am of the music from my adolescence. It's embarrassingly bad.

Congrats, you are the uncboy of music threads.

I saw them in chapel hill in '79 i think. It was called "spring fest". The spinners and joan jett and hall and oates. Joan jett brought kenan stadium down! Dont remember much about hall and oates. There were people fornicating in the very back upper level where it was dark and few people seated. Bastards.

John Oates sings lead on some of my favs (I'm Just A Kid and How Does It Feel To Be Back) and I agree he is tremendously underrated. Some other favs of mine that weren't on the set list you linked are:

Do What You Want, Be Who You Are
Beanie G and The Rose Tattoo
The Emptyness
Adult Education
Family Man
Possession Obsession
Don't Hold Back Your Love

If there was any chance of reconciliation between us, it just died.

Is it bad that I had to fight the urge to call them talentless hacks

Incidentally, have any of you ever seen the show "Live from Daryl's House?" Every episode, Daryl invites a guest band to come to his studio and play with his house band. They usually do a handful of the guest band's songs and then one or two of his songs.

The guest list is pretty impressive and there are some great performances in there. The more recent episodes are available on his website but most of the older performances are on YouTube...you just have to find the songs one by one instead of seeing the episode in its entirety.

Do What You Want, Be Who You Are
Adult Education

The husband-wife duo Johnnyswim actually hit both of these tunes in their session.

The gorgeous woman in that duo is Amando Sudano, the daughter of Donna Summer (RIP) and her husband-manager Bruce Sudano. My brother played in Donna Summer's band for years, first as her keyboardist and then for a short stint as her band leader before she decided to stop performing live. Six degrees and all that....

I had heard of the show but I've never taken the time to watch it. I will now after having read the wiki link you posted. I'll probably start with the Aaron Neville or Joe Walsh episode.

I didn't care that much for this one. Daryl struggles to hit the notes that are so key to that song. It actually hurt a little bit.

Now that I liked. Fun rendition. I like that they all took turns singing lead.

You're not lying. OMG!...would.

Wow. Super cool. How on earth - of all the shit we talk about on here - did this just now come out?

I've seen about a dozen episodes and there's always at least one performance that really grabs me. Sorry you didn't care for "Do What You Want"...Daryl's chops aren't what they once were, which was my only complaint about the concert a couple weeks ago.

No brainer. I was trying not to gush, but she's one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

I've mentioned it in passing maybe once or twice before. Donna did a VH1 special in 1999 for her "Live and More Encore" release so obviously he's all over that. It's pretty weird to see your brother playing on TV...I think you can see excerpts on YouTube now. Also, he has a picture in his office of him accompanying Donna and Elton John for a duet they did in London, I believe.

I'd never heard of that show, but definitely want to check it out; some pretty good guests in that list.
